Nick Kyrgios' domestic abuse history was brought back to light recently after his comments on Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek's doping controversies. The Aussie defended himself after he was labeled an 'abuser' online.

Just months after Sinner's failed drug tests were made public, news about Swiatek also failing the doping test has rocked the tennis world. Sinner had tested positive twice for clostebol in March. Although he was found to be not guilty by the ITIA and an independent tribunal, the Italian's case is ongoing as WADA has appealed it.

Meanwhile, Swiatek tested positive for trimetadizine (TMZ) in August. She was provisionally suspended in September and has now accepted a one-month ban.

Reacting to the controversies, a fan on X labeled it "wild" to have two World No. 1s (Swiatek was World No. 1 when she failed the test) testing positive for illegal substances in the same year. Kyrgios shared the fan's post and added:

"OUR SPORT IS COOKED 😴😭"

However, an X account shed light on Kyrgios' history with the law and wrote:

"A bigger problem in our sport is that abusers like you are allowed to keep on playing without any punishments at all, so shut the hell up before you say our sport is cooked"

The 29-year-old defended himself and stated that the user in question was spreading misinformation.

"Huh? Did you read my case? ….. when a potato like you speaks without facts that’s called spreading misinformation…. Hahahaha be upset."

Nick Kyrgios pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault for pushing his ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari, to the ground during an argument in January 2021. Despite this, the court did not record a conviction, citing the incident as an act of "stupidity" and "frustration."

Kyrgios expressed regret for his actions, attributing them to past struggles with mental health, including depression and substance abuse.

On the same post where Nick Kyrgios referred to tennis as "cooked" in reaction to the doping controversies surrounding Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner, he also responded to a fan's criticism. The fan had attacked Kyrgios, stating:

“'Our’ sport mf you don’t even play"

Kyrgios responded:

"Playing the aus open? When’s the last time you played a professional tournament, god social media has given peanuts a voice… hilarious"

The 29-year-old has played just one professional match since the end of the 2022 season. After facing several injury concerns in the past years, Kyrgios is set to return to the sport at the Brisbane International, scheduled to begin on December 29.
