Nick Kyrgios was recently asked to choose between $20 million and a Grand Slam title to which the Aussie comfortably made a bold claim. Kyrgios was in a conversation with the American trio of Jack Sock, Sam Querrey, and Steven Johnson.
Kyrgios won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 2022, alongside his childhood best friend Thanasi Kokkinakis. However, despite coming very close to getting his hands on the coveted Wimbledon trophy, the Aussie is yet to win a Grand Slam in singles.
In his latest appearance on the Nothing Major Podcast, hosted by Querrey, Sock, Johnson, and John Isner, the 29-year-old was asked what he would choose between a hefty $20 million in the bank or a coveted Grand Slam title.
"Would you rather have $20 million bucks right now or a Grand Slam title?" Sam Querrey asked.
"Are you serious?" Kyrgios asked.
"I'm dead serious," Querrey added.
Nick Kyrgios claimed,
"I'm just saying. A Slam's not that important."
Nick Kyrgios lost to Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon 2022 in a thrilling four-setter. Though the Aussie clinched the first set, the Serb came back from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3).
"My target is a Grand Slam" - Nick Kyrgios stated his primary goal ahead of his return
In a recent interview with CODE Sports, Nick Kyrgios said that winning a Grand Slam singles title is his 'deep motivation.' He feels that it is the only way to 'shut people up.' The Aussie was earlier sidelined due to a series of wrist and knee injuries.
“I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game. I have beaten pretty much every person that has been put in front of me, made a final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money," Kyrgios said.
“But I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That’ll be my deep motivation," he added.
Kyrgios has kicked off his preparations and is slated to make his much-awaited comeback at the Brisbane International. He and Jack Sock also have plans to team up and enter the Miami Masters this year.
