Nick Kyrgios recently joked about how he would've broken up with Andy Murray after the Brit decided to hop back into the tennis world as Novak Djokovic's coach. Murray recently hung up his racket at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kyrgios recently appeared on the Nothing Major podcast, hosted by Sam Querrey, Jack Sock and Steve Johnson, where he was discussing his highly-anticipated return and how he wanted to go out on his terms. The Aussie mentioned Andy Murray's struggle in the final stages of his career where he battled various injuries, including playing with a metal hip.

"I didn't wanna just have an injury, and I don't want to be someone like Andy Murray, that's for sure, like hobbling to the finish line, no," Kyrgios said. [21:46 onwards]

The 29-year-old was also surprised by how Murray jumped back into the tennis world by accepting the role of his former rival Novak Djokovic's coach at the Australian Open next season and joked how he would've broken up with the Brit had he been his partner.

"And now he's coaching Novak, I'm like, man, this guy actually can't stay away from tennis. He just can't. I was like, this guy's gonna go stay with his family, enjoy his life. But he's like I'm coaching Noavk, I'm like, 'Oh my god'. I'd break up with him for sure," he added.

The Aussie then added how the important thing about his comeback was for him to go out on his terms. He is slated to make his comeback at the 2025 Brisbane International.

"But yeah, I think it's just going out on my own terms. Like, you know, if I don't win a match, I don't really care. It's more so just coming back from an injury like this and just going out there again," he said.

The blockbuster partnership has been the talk of the tennis fraternity. During a recent interview with Eurosport, former British tennis professional Tim Henman said he wanted Novak Djokovic to face some adversity in his initial matches to understand the power dynamic between him and Andy Murray.

"Who's going to shout at who?" he questioned. "I'm definitely intrigued," he added. "That's why I want to see Djokovic struggle a little bit in those early matches so that there's a bit of tension, a bit of adversity, hopefully a bit of shouting and screaming at the box."

Henman also said that he was eager to see Murray be on the receiving side of Djokovic's outburst.
