Nick Kyrgios boldly announced how a wrist reconstruction wasn't going to keep him down after his World Tennis League campaign came to a close. The Aussie represented the Kites at the event, however, his team was eliminated in the group stages of the exhibition league.
Kyrgios enjoyed a career-best year during the 2022 season winning the Australian Open in doubles and finishing runner-up at Wimbledon in singles. However, he had a knee injury in early 2023 followed by a foot issue and a torn ligament in his wrist, which required surgery and has kept him out of action for a long time. The Aussie's last match on the ATP Tour came at the 2023 Stuttgart Open.
Kyrgios competed at the World Tennis League this year as he set his sights on the 2025 season. He took to Instagram to send a bold message to the tour, ahead of his return to the ATP Tour.
"Wrist reconstruction ain't gonna end me."
In another story, the 29-year-old expressed how he enjoyed his time at the event.
"Hey guys, NK here. My time in Abu Dhabi is almost up. Flying back to Australia. Just wanted to say that was an incredible couple days, loved my team, played some incredible matches."
Nick Kyrgios featured in Kites' match against the Falcons. He partnered with Jasmine Paolini to defeat Caroline Garcia and Denis Shapovalov 7-5 but was defeated 4-6 by Andrey Rublev in singles.
The Aussie teamed up with Casper Ruud, who he used to be on 'horrible terms' with, during the Kites' match against the Hawks but they were defeated 4-6 by Sumit Nagal and Jordan Thompson.
"No doubt that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are the best... doesn't mean I won't believe in myself" - Nick Kyrgios
During a recent chat, Nick Kyrgios admitted that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were currently the best players in the world. However, he said that he was ready to back himself despite seemingly insurmountable challenges.
"There’s no doubt that Sinner, Alcaraz — these guys are the best in the world right now, hands down. But that doesn’t mean I won’t believe in myself. I’ll always back myself and do everything I can to compete," Nick Kyrgios said while speaking to Telecomasia.
Kyrgios is set to make his much-awaited return at the 2025 Brisbane International following which he is slated to compete at the Australian Open.
