“Not a journalist anymore” - Martina Navratilova lashes out at NBC news moderator over controversial Donald Trump interview

Martina Navratilova is widely regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time. Recently, the American expressed her dissatisfaction over how NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’ moderator, Kristen Welker, conducted an interview with President-elect Donald Trump.

Navratilova rose to fame in the early 1980s when she dominated the game of women's singles. The 68-year-old led an admirable career on the courts for over three decades and retired from the sport in 2006. Since her retirement, the tennis star has continued to use her platform to raise awareness about issues she cares about.

Most recently, she criticized NBC News' 'Meet the Press’ moderator Welker over how she conducted her interview with Donald Trump on Sunday, December 8. In light of the interview, an account on X wrote,

“During the interview today with Donald Trump, Kristen Welker allowed Donald Trump to lie regarding every question with very little push back. The media will never learn. They failed the American people today yet again.”

To this, Martina Navratilova responded,

“I used to like Welker. She is not a journalist anymore.”

Martina Navratilova has consistently criticized President-elect Donald Trump over the years. During the 2024 election, the tennis star repeatedly raised concerns about the Republican party’s policies regarding various issues.

Earlier this year, when Trump was re-elected as President for his second term, Navratilova took to X to make her sentiments on the matter clear, writing,

“Well, Trump won. Fear and anger won. And a country that was born as a racist patriarchy proved beyond any reasonable doubt it still is a racist patriarchy. Not sure when this ceases to be true.”

Navratilova has been consistent in her criticism of Trump and recently linked him to a case of child marriage in Afghanistan. Reacting to the news, an X user alleged that ‘Biden made it all possible’, to which the 68-year-old responded,

“Bullshit- trump made the deal with the Taliban and let many taliban terrorists go free- try again.”

On the tennis courts, Martina Navratilova was a dominant force. During her career, she claimed 18 major singles titles, 31 major doubles titles, and 10 major mixed doubles titles, making her the most successful player of the Open Era. She was also ranked World No.1 in the women's singles discipline for 332 weeks.
