Fans were amused by Roger Federer's US Open credentials photo, where he wore a white tuxedo. He attended several matches on Tuesday, September 3, marking his return to the New York Major for the first time since retiring.
Federer attended the quarterfinal encounter between Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen before watching Frances Tiafoe's clash against Grigor Dimitrov. He received rapturous applause at the Arthur Ashe Stadium upon his return to the New York Major for the first time since retiring in 2022.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion's image on his credentials was posted on Reddit. It also stated that he was a 5x champion.
Fans were amused by the selection of the image. One fan wrote, in James Bond style:
"Federer. Roger Federer."
"He looks so goddamn dapper and handsome in a suit. Not many can rock a suit as good as Roger... Also what a flex 💪🏻 But it should have been 6x," another fan wrote.
The image was from Federer's appearance at the Oscars this year and one fan guessed it correctly.
"Looks like he submitted a picture from the Met Gala or Oscars lol," the fan wrote.
Here are a few more reactions to the Swiss' credentials photo at the US Open.
"GOAT card 😁" one fan wrote.
"I wanna be Roger's friend in the next life," another fan wrote.
"The tux in the pic is over the top 😂" a fan joked.
"The way he looked in the suit was the same way he looked when he was playing" - Frances Tiafoe on spotting Roger Federer at US Open 2024

Roger Federer attended Frances Tiafoe's quarterfinal win over Grigor Dimitrov where the Bulgarian had to retire in the fourth set. Tiafoe, who played Federer in the New York Major in 2017, said he spotted the Swiss in the crowd and he looked the same as he used to look when he was playing.
"The way he looked in the suit was the same way he looked when he was playing. No sweating. T-shirts ironed perfect. What’s up with this dude, man? Hair perfect. So it was just funny man," Frances Tiafoe said during his post-match press conference.
"I give him crap about that all the time. But what a guy, what a legend,” he added.
Incidentally, Federer is still the only man to defend his singles title at the US Open this century. There were different winners from 2000 to 2003 before Federer won the title five times from 2004 to 2008. Since 2009, however, no US Open men's singles champion has defended his title.
Novak Djokovic won the title in 2023 but he was ousted in the third round this year and we are guaranteed a new champion.
