Jack Draper pulled off one of the biggest wins of his career yet, beating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of the 2024 Queen's Club Championships. Thanks to his win, Novak Djokovic will replace Alcaraz as the World No. 2 next week, meaning the Serb will also be the No. 2 seed at Wimbledon next month.

Draper, fresh off his maiden ATP Tour title at Stuttgart last week, opened his campaign at Queen's Club against Mariano Navone. After securing a straight-sets victory over the Argentine, he met Alcaraz for their third meeting on the tour. Coming into the clash with a 0-2 record against the Spaniard, Draper took the opening set in a tiebreaker, winning it 7-6(3).

The Draper then went up a break in the second set, but could not close out the match on his serve at 5*-2, with Alcaraz saving three match points. However, Draper responded strongly by breaking back immediately to snatch the set 6-3.

With the defeat, Carlos Alcaraz's 13-match winning streak on grass comes to an end. The three-time Grand Slam champion had won both Queen's Club and Wimbledon last year, going unbeaten on the surface for three weeks. The drop of 450 points from the defeat has resulted in the 20-year-old falling 230 points behind Djokovic in the ATP rankings now.

It should be noted that the Serb remains a doubt for Wimbledon at the moment, after injuring his knee during the French Open earlier this month. Although he has had surgery and is out of crutches in the recovery process, there is no official confirmation at the moment whether the seven-time Grand Slam champion will make the trip to SW19 at the end of the month.

Following his win over Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper will next take on Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Queen's Club Championships. Paul, seeded No. 5 at the ATP 500 event, is yet to lose a set this week and has taken down Sebastian Baez and Alejandro Tabilo in the first two rounds.

The duo have met four times on tour previously, with the American trailing 1-3. Three of those meetings have come in 2024 alone, with Draper winning two and losing one. Their encounter at Queen's Club will be the first meeting between the pair on grass.
