Novak Djokovic cheers on mixed doubles partner Olga Danilovic as she wins 2nd career title at Guangzhou Open

Novak Djokovic congratulated his compatriot Olga Danilovic after she claimed her second WTA title at the Guangzhou Open. The two previously teamed up to play mixed doubles at the 2024 United Cup, sharing a strong bond on and off the court.

Danilovic defeated American qualifier Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-1 in Guangzhou on Sunday, October 27, securing her first title of the season and the second of her career.

The World No. 86, who last won a title in Moscow six years ago, broke serve in the fifth game of the opening set in her first hard-court final. She then fended off a late comeback attempt from Dolehide to secure the win.

Olga Danilovic received widespread praise for her exploits in the Chinese city including a special shoutout from Novak Djokovic. The 24-time Grand Slam champion posted a photo of his fellow Serbian holding the trophy on his Instagram stories, adding some celebratory emojis in support.

Danilovic also shares a close bond with Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, with the two exchanging kind words in the past. Earlier this year, Jelena offered her heartfelt support to the 23-year-old after an impressive run to the fourth round at the French Open—her best Grand Slam showing to date.

Novak Djokovic and Olga Danilovic partnered for mixed doubles at the 2024 United Cup, scoring a 6-4, 1-6, 10/6 victory over China’s Zheng Qinwen and Zhang Zhizhen. The pair demonstrated excellent coordination and resilience throughout the match.

Reflecting on her experience playing with Djokovic, Danilovic expressed that it was a dream come true for her. She felt a great sense of relief after their victory, as it was an accomplishment she was eager to share.

"I played with him United Cup this year, it was like a bucket list for me to play doubles with him and to win," Danilovic told the media during the 2024 French Open. "It was such a relief when we won because it was something that I really wanted to say, 'I played with Novak and I won!'"

She added:

"Having that kind of person in the same sport as me, for me, he's just a very humble and nice guy. Especially that he's the No. 1 in the world and for me, he's the greatest of all time."

It remains uncertain if the duo will collaborate again for mixed doubles in the future. However, should the opportunity arise, it would undoubtedly be thrilling.
