Novak Djokovic lashed out at the umpire and later his team during his semifinal win against Lorenzo Musetti at the 2024 Paris Olympics in Roland Garros. The Serb defeated the Italian in straight sets to reach the maiden Olympic final of his career.
The 37-year-old, who has been chasing the elusive gold medal for many years, entered the men's singles at the Olympics as the top seed. He kicked off his tournament with a routine win against Australia's Matthew Ebden, following which he made a statement by defeating long-time rival Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
The World No. 2 then defeated Dominik Koepfer, before overcoming Stefanos Tsitsipas to record his fourth consecutive win in straight sets.
The Serb faced Musetti in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics, which coincidentally, was also a rematch of their Wimbledon semifinal. The World No. 2 had an eventful win in straight sets as he ousted the Italian 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 49 minutes to reach the final of the men's singles at the Paris Olympics. He also became the oldest man to achieve this feat.
However, there was a moment at the beginning of the second set when Djokovic lost his cool. The Serb got an audible obscenity violation after he lost a first serve for a time violation and argued with the umpire. Some time later, when his serve was broken by Musetti for the second time, the World No. 2 lashed out at his team.
Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in the summit clash for gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, in what will be the seventh meeting between the two.
Alcaraz, much like the Serb, has been in scintillating form at the Olympics. He ousted the likes of Hady Habib, Tallon Griekspoor, Roman Safiullin, and Tommy Paul to reach the semifinals, where he faced Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Spaniard defeated the Canadian 6-1, 6-1 in just an hour and 15 minutes to become the youngest men's singles finalist at the prestigious event since 1904.
The head-to-head between the two men currently stands at 3-3 with their most recent meeting coming at the 2024 Wimbledon championships where the Spaniard prevailed in straight sets. However, when the two men faced each other at Roland Garros in 2023 in the semifinals, Djokovic triumphed over Alcaraz in four sets.
