Novak Djokovic has decided to withdraw from Serbia's team from their Davis Cup tie against Denmark. The Serb's decision came in the aftermath of his shocking mid-match retirement during his 2025 Australian Open semifinal clash against Alexander Zverev.

On Friday, January 24, hours after his unfortunate exit from the year's first Grand Slam, Sportklub published an article confirming the former No. 1's absence in the Serbian lineup for the Davis Cup Qualifiers tie against the Danes, which will take place from January 31 to February 1 in Copenhagen's Royal Arena.

"As expected, Novak Djokovic will miss the Davis Cup 1st round tie vs. Denmark at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. Lajovic also injured so Serbia goes with Djere, Medjedovic and Kecmanovic. Denmark got Rune, Moeller, Holmgren," tennis insider Jose Morgado wrote.

Novak Djokovic's latest injury surfaced during his 2025 Australian Open quarterfinal matchup against Carlos Alcaraz. The 24-time Major champion took an extended medical timeout and later returned to the Rod Laver Arena court wearing a bandage on his left thigh. Even though he took medications that helped him get over the line against the Spaniard, the Serb chose not to repeat the same thing against Zverev in the semis.

Sections of the shellshocked Rod Laver Arena crowd controversially booed the Serb off the court. Later, at a post-match press conference, the former No. 1 revealed the true extent of his latest injury.

Novak Djokovic briefly touched on the nature of the injury he sustained during the Australian Open, claiming that it's a muscle tear. The Serb confessed that at the 2023 edition of the hardcourt Major, he was able to deal with the injury in such a way that allowed him to win the title.

"I mean, look, it's a muscle tear. Two years ago, you know, I have managed it better. On the court it didn't bother me as much. This time that wasn't the case. So in these kind of instances I guess have you to try to do as much as you possibly can in the shortest amount of time, and that was the case," the former No.1 told reporters at a press conference.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner also hinted that he may have played his last match at the Australian Open, where he is the record 10-time champion. Following his exit at the Melbourne Major, the Serb currently has seven wins out of nine matches so far in the 2025 season.

He competed at the Brisbane International before the Australian Open and reached the quarterfinals before losing to Reilly Opelka.
