Novak Djokovic has reacted after his shocking quarterfinal exit to Reilly Opelka at the 2025 Brisbane International. The 37-year-old was looking rock solid in the opening two matches, however, the American turned up big time to eliminate the top seed.

Djokovic kicked off his campaign with comfortable 6-3, 6-3 wins over home favorite Rinky Hijikata and veteran Gael Monfils. On the other hand, Opelka, who had been out of action for a long time due to various injuries, looked in fine form having ousted Federico Agustin Gomez and Matteo Arnaldi in straight sets. When they faced each other in the quarterfinals, it was the American who won 7-6(6), 6-3.

The tennis world was sent into a frenzy after seeing the Serb, a favorite at the upcoming Australian Open, exit the 250 event early. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old took to Instagram to congratulate Opelka on the huge win and wish him the best for his upcoming matches.

"Amazing tennis, Reilly. Absolutely deserved. Good luck."

Interestingly, Opelka has dubbed the Serb as the GOAT of tennis on a couple of occasions. The two men also shared a beautiful handshake after the end of their match and seemingly exchanged some words of encouragement with each other.

With his staggering win, Reilly Opelka became the lowest-ranked player, at 293, to get a win over Novak Djokovic in an ATP Tour completed match. Now the American will turn his focus towards another dangerous opponent, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Interestingly, after defeating Jakub Mesik 7-5, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals, the Frenchman expressed his opinion on a potential matchup with the 24-time Grand Slam champion, who is one of his inspirations.

“I think it’s the toughest on earth. I can be excited to play him. He’s an unbelievable player. He did so many good things. I can be excited. Novak was one of my inspirations growing up. Not my favorite, but one of my inspirations because of what he’s done. If he wins, I can be very happy to play against him,” he said via The Tennis Letter.

However, it will be Opelka who will play the rising star in the semifinals of the Brisbane International. The winner between the two heavy servers will play either Jiri Lehecka or defending champion Grigor Dimitrov in the summit clash in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Djokovic will begin preparing for the upcoming Australian Open where he will be bidding to win an unprecedented 25th Major.
