Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova have been spotted taking a leisure stroll on the roads of Kotor, a town in Montenegro, over the weekend. The Serb and the Russian have maintained a great bond over the years.

Sharapova rose to tennis stardom at just 17 years of age, when she beat two-time defending champion Serena Williams in Wimbledon 2004 final. Djokovic, meanwhile, bloomed at the age of 20 after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to win his first Grand Slam at the 2008 Australian Open.

Sharapova retired from the sport in 2020, but Djokovic continues his phenomenal career. Most recently, the World No. 2 played in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, where he was defeated in straight sets by defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Putting the Wimbledon heartbreak behind him, Djokovic was spotted with Sharapova walking the streets of Montenegro and catching-up on their time together. Videos of the duo, dressed in chic white outfits and exchanging casual conversation, surfaced on social media on Saturday, July 20.

Up next, the Serb will be eyeing a strong comeback at the Paris Olympics, where he will be on the hunt for his maiden gold medal.

Sharapova, on the other hand, has successfully transitioned into the business world. The five-time Grand Slam champion has ventured into the fashion industry, as well as concentrating on growing her Sugarpova candy brand.

Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova's first meeting can be traced back to almost two decades ago. Sharapova recalled on their first meet as the two competed on opposing sides during a mixed doubles exhibition match at La Quinta in Indian Wells.

Djokovic said that if he won, Sharapova would treat him to dinner.

“I was like, ‘OK whatever, who is this kid?’” Sharapova recalled during an Instagram live conversation with Djokovic in 2020.

The Russian added:

“You won and you’re like, ‘We have dinner, tonight. We’re going to the Japanese place’. And I was like, ‘Are you serious? You and me are going to dinner? Tonight? “So we did! We ended up going to dinner.’”

The five-time Grand Slam winner stays in the tennis spotlight with occasional appearances, her latest being at Wimbledon 2024.
