Popular journalist, broadcaster, and media personality Piers Morgan has put his weight behind Novak Djokovic amid the ongoing controversy over the Wimbledon crowd booing the Serb. During his fourth-round match against Holger Rune, the World No. 2 felt disrespected due to the spectators' behavior on Centre Court.

Djokovic, in a dominating display, demolished Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth round at Wimbledon. The spectators on the Centre Court started to back the Dane and chanted 'Runnneeee' as a show of support. To many, including the Serb, it sounded like booing.

He gave a no-holds-barred on-court interview after the win and showed his dissatisfaction with the way he was treated during the match. The Serb also gave an interview with BBC and was asked two back-to-back questions about the incident.

The World No. 2 was left furious with the line of questioning and walked out of the interview saying:

"Do you have any other questions other than the crowd, or you focused only on that or any questions about the match or something like that, or is it solely focused on that."

Piers Morgan sympathized with the World No. 2 and said that he was willing to interview him and would treat him better than the way he was being treated by media and fans.

"Djokovic is being a monumental d*ck at Wimbledon this year, and I’m all here for it. He deserves way more respect than he gets, from fans & media, and he’s obviously bored with pretending he’s OK with it. Let’s do an interview, @DjokerNole - I won’t treat you like this," Morgan wrote, in response to BBC's tweet about the interview.

Novak Djokovic did not hold back during his on-court interview after the fourth-round win as he responded to the supposed 'booing'. He mocked the spectators by wishing them good night in an elongated tone.

“To all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player – in this case me – have a good [drawn out] night. Gooood night, gooood night. A very good night,” he said.

As the presenter tried to reason with him, saying that they were cheering on Rune, rather than 'booing', the Serb did not accept the explanation.

“They were. They were. I don't accept it. No, no, no. I know they were cheering for [Holger] Rune but that’s an excuse to also boo. Listen, I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. So trust me, I know all the tricks, I know how it works, it's fine, it's fine, it's okay,” Djokovic said.

The World No. 2 announced that he has played in such environments many times and was unfazed by the display of hostility.

“I played in much more hostile environments, trust me – you guys can’t touch me,” he said.

Novak Djokovic's quarterfinal opponent Alex de Minaur withdrew due to an injury. This sends the Serb into the semifinal, where he awaits the winner of Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti.
