Carlos Alcaraz has encountered a worrying setback at the 2024 US Open, sustaining an injury just three days before his opening match at the Major. With concerns raised over the Spaniard's fitness, fans lamented that his injury would potentially give Novak Djokovic a free ride to the title.
Alcaraz is gearing up to hunt for his third Grand Slam title of the season at the US Open, following his triumphs at the French Open and Wimbledon. The 21-year-old began his preparations in earnest at Flushing Meadows, taking part in a practice session with Francisco Cerundolo.
However, the duo's practice session was derailed when Carlos Alcaraz rolled his ankle during a rally. The Spaniard consulted with his coaching team and decided to call an early end to the training session.
With one of the title favorites, Carlos Alcaraz, now facing injury concerns, several fans lamented Novak Djokovic's "incredible" luck. However, it is worth mentioning that the Serb is facing similar fitness concerns, having cut his practice session with Holger Rune short after receiving treatment for discomfort.
"Djokovic’s luck is incredible," one fan commented.
"Just hand Novak the trophy already," a fan remarked.
"Djokovic’s luck is unmatched," another fan chimed in.
"The only one who can stop Djokovic 😭 I’m so sick 😭," said another.
Others, meanwhile, expressed hope that the Spaniard's campaign wouldn't be derailed by a serious injury.
"He should be careful man. Hopefully he’s healthy," one fan posted.
"No god no, Hope he is fine nothing serious," another fan wrote.
"He really can't catch a break 😔," a fan commented.
Some fans also used the opportunity to poke fun at Jannik Sinner's doping controversy, making tongue-in-cheek references to him providing Carlos Alcaraz with the banned substance Costebol, which entered the Italian's system through his former physiotherapist's healing spray.
"I wonder if Sinner still has any of that magic cream," a fan joked.
"@janniksin get this man some Clostebol," one fan quipped.
"Cahill and Sinner could recommend him a good spray to apply...," another fan chimed in.
