Djokovic is coming off a historic run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he completed the career Golden Slam by winning the gold medal in the men's singles after defeating second seed Carlos Alcaraz in a thrilling final at Roland Garros on August 4.

The Serb registered straight-sets victories over Australia's Matthew Ebden, Spain's Rafael Nadal, Germany's Dominik Koepfer, Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Italy's Lorenzo Musetti who was the eventual bronze medalist.

The final against Alcaraz was a rematch of the Wimbledon final, where the Spaniard stunned the 24-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets to claim his fourth Grand Slam title. The match in Paris was a thrilling battle that lasted more than three hours and featured two tie-breaks, where the Serb eventually prevailed 7-6(3), 7-6(2).

The Serb’s next challenge will be the US Open series, which consists of three tournaments: the National Bank Open in Montreal (August 6-12), the Cincinnati Open (August 12-19), and the US Open (August 26-September 8).

Novak Djokovic decided to skip the US Open warm-up tournament in Montreal following his victory against longtime rival Rafael Nadal in the Paris Olympics second round. Consequently, Roman Safiullin secures a direct spot in the main draw of the ATP Masters 1000 event.

"I’m disappointed to announce my withdrawal from the National Bank Open in Montreal," the Serb said (via nationalbankopen.com). "I have a lot of great memories from Montreal, winning two titles there (and two others in Toronto)."
"However, as I'm recovering from my injury in a very busy calendar this summer, I need to make hard choices. I really hope I can return to Canada and Montreal in the coming years to play in front of their amazing fans," he added.

Djokovic will miss the esteemed hard-court tournament for the sixth consecutive year. The Serb has won the tournament four times (2007, 2011, 2012, 2016) and also reached the final in 2015 where he lost to Andy Murray in three sets.
