Novak Djokovic's wife Jelena celebrates the Serb creating history as the male player with most win at Arthur Ashe Stadium after US Open 1R win

Novak Djokovic's wife, Jelena, celebrated his achievement of becoming the only male player with the most wins at the Arthur Ashe Stadium after he won his first-round match at the 2024 US Open.

Leading up to the New York Slam, Djokovic opted out of competing in two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments: the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open. Prior to defending his title at Flushing Meadows, the Serb had secured a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

His journey to the gold included defeating the likes of Matthew Ebden, Rafael Nadal, Dominik Koepfer, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Lorenzo Musetti, and ultimately claiming victory over Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in the final.

At the US Open, Novak Djokovic is seeded second and kicked off his campaign by defeating Moldovan qualifier Radu Albot 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in just over two hours to advance to the second round.

This victory marked the 24-time Grand Slam champion record his 78th win at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the most by any male player. This triumph also tied him with Roger Federer (89) for most wins at the US Open .

The official US Open social media account shared the news of the Serb breaking the record for the most wins by a male player at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Novak Djokovic will face Laslo Djere in US Open 2024 2R

Novak Djokovic will go up against fellow countryman Laslo Djere in the second round of the 2024 US Open.

Djere arrived at the New York Slam after competing in the ATP 250 event, the Winston-Salem Open. Unfortunately, he had a disappointing outing there, losing to lucky loser Zachary Svajda 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round.

At the US Open, Djere began his campaign by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff 6-7(7), 6-1, 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-2 in the first round to secure his place in the second.

Novak Djokovic and Laslo Djere have faced each other twice before on the ATP Tour, with the former winning both the match-ups. Their first meeting was at the 2022 Serbia Open, which the 24-time Grand Slam champion won 2-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4) .Their most recent encounter was in the third round of the 2023 US Open, where the 37-year old once again won 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3

The winner of the all Serbian clash will advance to face either 28th seed Alexei Popyrin or Pedro Martinez in the third round at Flushing Meadows.
