Novak Djokovic sent an endearing message to Carlos Alcaraz after clinching an emphatic four-set win over the Spaniard in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Australian Open. The generational rivalry concluded its eighth installment with the Serb extending his lead to 5-3.

The tennis world waited with bated breath to witness the clash of generations and they were not disappointed. The two men, as always, put on a blockbuster at the coveted Rod Laver Arena but there could only be one winner and it was the 37-year-old who turned around a one-set deficit to claim a statement 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win after three hours and 37 minutes of riveting tennis.

During the on-court interview, Djokovic took a moment to appreciate Alcaraz for showing 'terrific' character both on and off the court and also acknowledged his illustrious career despite being 21 years old. He also boldly claimed how he would've wanted this match to be the showpiece clash.

"You know, first, I wanna say, my utmost, respect and admiration for Carlos and everything, he stands for and what he has achieved so far in his young career."
"What a terrific guy he is and even better competitor, youngest ever#1 in the world, in the history of our sport, so 4 Grand Slams and I'm sure that we're going to see a lot of him and maybe not as much as I would like, but, he's gonna, he's going to be there for sure, longer than me, and you know, I just wish that this, this,match today was the finals, honestly."

Though he may have wanted his clash against the third seed to be a final, the Serb will have to go through the second seed to reach the final of his favorite Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic will play Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the 2025 Australian Open, in what will be the 13th match between the two powerhouses. The Serb holds a massive 8-4 lead.

Zverev has been playing the best tennis of his life since last season and has been managing to find ways to win even after finding himself in tough situations, as evidenced by his quarterfinal win against 12th seed Tommy Paul. The German 7-6(1), 7-6(0), 2-6, 6-1 despite finding himself trailing Paul in the opening two sets.

The two men met at the 2021 Australian Open in the quarterfinals and it was the Serbian legend clinched a four-set win by overturning a one-set deficit, coincidentally, like his match with Carlos Alcaraz.
