Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday, July 14, 2024, with a commanding victory over Novak Djokovic in a repeat of last year's final. The young Spaniard's exploits have garnered reactions from tennis fans worldwide.

Aiming to win his second tournament title and fourth Grand Slam overall, Alcaraz kicked off his campaign at the London Major with an easy win over Mark Lajal. He followed it up with victories over Aleksandar Vukic, Frances Tiafoe, Ugo Humbert, Tommy Paul, and Daniil Medvedev, setting up a clash with Djokovic in the championship match.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4), improving his record to 4-0 in Major finals and crushing Djokovic's hopes of equaling Roger Federer's eight Wimbledon titles. This victory marks the 21-year-old's second Grand Slam in a row, following his maiden French Open win just a month ago. He also became the first Spaniard to win back-to-back titles at SW19.

Tennis fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions to Carlos Alcaraz defeating Novak Djokovic, with one fan suggesting that it might be time for the Serb to hang up his racquet.

"NOVAK DJOKOVIC, IT'S TIME TO RETIRE!!!!!!!!!!!" the fan wrote.

Another fan speculated that Djokovic's defeat might signal the end of the "Big-3 era," writing:

"Congratulations Carlos. I think it's safe to say the Big-3 era is officially over after Novak's overall display in this game."
"VAMOOOOOOOOOOSSSS We just witnessed the greatest performance in GS final history (bar the choke). Take a bow, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia. 4 slams at 21. Carlitos saved tennis from the antivaxer equalizing Roger’s Wimbledon record," one account posted.
"Djokovic's easy ride is over, now he has someone at his level," another tweeted.

One user commented:

"This match was the parsing of torch in tennis, the Big 3 reign is over; tennis is now moving to a different direction with ALCARAZ leading the new era of tennis."

During the trophy presentation ceremony at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Novak Djokovic graciously praised Carlos Alcaraz, recognizing his opponent's exceptional form during their match. The Serb also expressed regret that he couldn't perform at his highest level.

"He [Carlos Alcaraz] was definitely very hot today," Djokovic said. "Obviously, not the result that I wanted and especially in the first couple of sets, the level of tennis was not up to par from my side."
"But credit to Carlos for really playing some amazing tennis, complete tennis from the back of the court, serve, I mean he had it all today," he added.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion continued:

"I tried to push him to save the three match points and extended the match a little bit but it wasn't meant to be, really. He was an absolutely deserved winner today."

Following his defeat at Wimbledon, Djokovic is on track to enter August without a title for the first time since 2005.
