Netflix announced a documentary chronicling Carlos Alcaraz's 2024 season will be released in 2025. Some fans were excited while others called for a similar project for Novak Djokovic.
'The Netflix Slam', an exhibition match between Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal that was released on Netflix in March 2024, was 'just the beginning' of Alcaraz and Netflix's partnership.
The American streaming platform has announced that a docuseries following the 21-year-old on and off the court during his 2024 season will be released next year.
“People are going to get to know everything you don’t see on a tennis court. I think it’s something very different,” the Spaniard told Netflix.
Fans, however, had mixed reactions to the announcement. Some fans claimed the media was pushing for Alcaraz to be liked by the people while a player like Djokovic was 'universally disliked'.
"The harsh reality is that rightly or wrongly, Novak — despite his greatness — isn’t universally liked. Carlos Alcaraz seems to be. Netflix care about viewership and not grand slam titles like tennis fans do. So obviously they won’t make one for Novak...," one fan wrote.
"The media wants people to like Alcaraz so they boost him up. They could do the same for Novak, they should: but they won’t. He is from the “wrong country”, he displaced beloved Federer and Nadal. People believe all the media lies about him...," another fan wrote.
"I would start with the greatest player in history Đoković. Bad management decision," a third fan wrote.
"They do not care for Novak as you well know, and the feelings are mutual. Novak doesn't need them," yet another wrote.
However, some other fans showed excitement for the upcoming project.
"Exciting! Can't wait to watch his journey unfold on Netflix," one fan wrote.
"Should be a good one. Carlos is an exciting player to watch," another fan wrote.
Novak Djokovic on the rise of Carlos Alcaraz and 'changing of the guard'

Carlos Alcaraz got the better of Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final for the second consecutive time this year. The Serb's friend and Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to suggest that a 'changing of the guard' may be taking place.
Djokovic was asked in a press conference about the rise of the new generation and how the media portrays his defeats. The Serb expressed hurt over the way his defeats were magnified and claimed that they were looking for a new leader.
"It seems there is always a need for headlines of this kind and grandiose news. Many people are not satisfied with me remaining at the top, so they will be eager for that change to occur.... Obviously, the more important the tournament in which I lose, the more media coverage it will have," Djokovic said.
He mentioned Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the current World No. 1, as players who are proving their worth on tour.
"If we talk about the results of Alcaraz, he deserves to be part of the discussion about the change of generations because he deserves it - four Slams, he was number 1. Sinner also, especially this year, but not so much others - the results need to be proven," he added.
Djokovic has not won a title yet in 2024. The Wimbledon final was his first final of the year. The Serb hopes to put up his best show at the upcoming Paris Olympics and US Open.
