Just over a week ago, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz competed in the men's singles gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Recently, Spanish media consulting firm Barlovento Comunicación revealed that their clash was the most-watched Olympic event in Spain.
Carlos Alcaraz, representing Spain, made his Olympics debut in Paris in both the men’s singles and doubles categories. The Serb, on the other hand, was representing Serbia for the fifth time at the Olympics. At the Beijing Olympics 2008, he won the bronze medal, and at the recently concluded Summer Games, he secured the gold medal that had eluded him throughout his career by defeating the Spaniard 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in the final.
On Wednesday, Barlovento Comunicación released a report that detailed the viewership numbers for the top five channels that broadcasted the 2024 Olympic Games.
The match between Alcaraz and the Serb was viewed by 7.7 million people at some point, capturing a 37.5% share of the screen. The men's football final between Spain and France was the second most-watched event of the Paris Olympics, achieving the highest audience share of 41.7% during extra time.
Djokovic and Alcaraz were constantly in the news during the Paris Olympics. Alcaraz entered the tournament in strong form, having won the 2024 French Open and Wimbledon Championships. He also partnered with 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal for Spain's men's doubles, but they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
The Olympics offered another opportunity for Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to face each other for the 60th time in their careers, with the former extending his head-to-head lead to 31–29.
