Former tennis players Rennae Stubbs and Sam Querrey recently commented on Novak Djokovic's quest to complete the Career Golden Slam by winning the singles gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. A tennis player is said to have achieved the Career Golden Slam by winning the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, and gold at the Olympics.

Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, and Andre Agassi are the only tennis players so far to have completed the Career Golden Slam. The four players have won all four Majors in their careers with Graf securing the coveted gold in 1988 (Seoul), Agassi in 1996 (Los Angeles), Nadal in 2008 (Beijing), and Williams in 2012 (London).

Djokovic will soon begin his fifth attempt to secure a place alongside Nadal, Williams, Graf, and Agassi as the 2024 Paris Olympics kick off on Friday, July 26. His best performance at the Games thus far has been the bronze medal he secured in Beijing. He finished fourth in London and Tokyo (2021) and 33rd in Rio (2016).

Sam Querrey recently appeared in an episode of Racquet's Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast and claimed the Serb wants to win the singles Olympic gold badly despite being a 24-time Grand Slam champion.

"If you would ask him, I’m sure he’ll kind of give somewhat of a political answer like, ‘Yeah, I so would love to win it but I won all the other things’. But I think deep down, he wants to win it. It’s the only thing he hasn’t accomplished. He wants to get on this list of four other players to have accomplished that feat," Querrey told host Rennae Stubbs (at 4:26).

Stubbs chimed in and suggested the 37-year-old designed his schedule for the 2024 season thus far to peak at the Games in Paris.

"I think that his intentions, other than winning Grand Slams… he set his schedule to try and win a gold medal at the Olympics in Paris," she said.

Notably, Djokovic has competed at only seven tournaments this year and has not won a trophy yet.

"If Novak Djokovic wins no tournaments and wins the Olympic gold medal, he might look at it as 2024 was the greatest year of my tennis life" - Sam Querrey

In the same episode of Racquet's Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, Rennae Stubbs, while recalling Novak Djokovic's tear-filled exits from previous editions of the Olympics, asked Sam Querrey if patriotism influenced the Serb to do well at the quadrennial event.

"We’ve seen the way he’s left the court many times at the Olympics in absolute tears and we don’t see that when he loses matches in the ATP Tour or even at Grand Slam level. So much do you think his love of Serbia is also pressing him to do this?" he wondered.

Querrey stressed the importance of the gold for Djokovic by suggesting that the latter would render the 2024 season a success even if he goes trophyless on tour for the remaining months but with the golden ribbon around his neck.

"I think if he wins no tournaments all year and wins the Olympic gold medal, honestly, he might look at it as 2024 was the greatest year of my tennis life," Querrey said.

Djokovic most recently finished second best to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon Championships. At the Australian Open, he lost to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals and withdrew from the French Open semifinals due to a knee injury.
