Nick Kyrgios recently commended Novak Djokovic for his runner-up finish at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Kyrgios further suggested that the Serb should indulge in some 'well-deserved' beers to celebrate his final run at the grasscourt Major.
Djokovic was the second seed at the tournament and began his campaign by defeating qualifier Vit Kopriva in the first round and wildcard Jacob Fearnley in the second round. He then went on to overcome Alexei Popyrin and 15th seed Holger Rune in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.
The Serb was scheduled to face ninth seed Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals but he advanced to the semifinals after De MInaur withdrew from the tournament due to a hip injury. He then triumphed over 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti in the final four to secure his spot in the championship match.
In a rematch of the 2023 final, Novak Djokovic faced defending champion and third seed Carlos Alcaraz. Despite harboring hopes of clinching his first title of the season and an eighth Wimbledon title, the former World No.1 was defeated by the Spaniard 2-6, 2-6, 6-7(4).
After his loss, Novak Djokovic took to social media to share a series of pictures from the final against Alcaraz. In the caption, he expressed gratitude to his team, partners, family, friends, and fans for their support throughout the tournament
The former World No.1 also graciously praised his "friend" Alcaraz for winning the Wimbledon title.
"Every time I walk on to Centre Court, I am filled with such gratitude that I am living out my childhood dream. Thank you to my entire team, partners, family, friends and #nolefam for all of your support throughout the last few weeks. Onwards. Felicidades, @carlitosalcarazz, well deserved, my friend," he captioned his Instagram post.
Reacting to Djokovic's post, Nick Kyrgios commended the Serb for having a brilliant campaign at Wimbledon. He also suggested that the Serb should celebrate with some beers after his performance during the tournament.
"Good effort, great 2 weeks bro. Now for some beers," Kyrgios commented.
Novak Djokovic on losing to Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon 2024 final: "He was better than me in every aspect of the game"
Following his loss against Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Novak Djokovic stated in the post-match press conference that he had felt "inferior" on the court against the Spaniard. He added that he felt outmatched and that there was little he could have done to change the outcome.
“The way I felt on the court today against him, I was inferior on the court. He was a better player. That’s it. He played every single shot better than I did. I don’t think I could’ve done much more," he said
The Serb praised Alcaraz's performance, stating that the Spaniard excelled in every aspect of the game and easily outplayed him
“I’ve never seen him serve that way. 136 [mph]. I’ve never seen him serve that fast. He must’ve had a really good serving practice day yesterday. He really outplayed me… he was better than me in every aspect of the game,” he added.
This loss to Alcaraz marked Djokovic's third defeat to the 21-year-old on the ATP Tour and his second loss to the World No.3 at the Grand Slam stage, the last one coming in last year's Wimbledon finalA.
