Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, slammed the 'woke movement' while embracing a brown skin-tone bandage. He considered it a perk of being in an interracial marriage.

Ohanian has taken a firm stand against racism on numerous occasions. Earlier this year, he showed his solidarity with gymnast Jordan Chiles, who faced racist remarks following the controversy surrounding her bronze medal finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On Tuesday, December 10, the Reddit co-founder shared an Instagram story showing a brown band-aid on his shoulder. He mentioned that being in an interracial marriage, he often comes across things like this.

“So, big fella needed a Band-Aid. Obviously, I live in an interracial household, so I have lots of brown skin tone Band-Aids,” Ohanian said.

The 41-year-old added that the color difference startled him at first but later he found it intriguing.

“And I'll say, one of the perks of being in an interracial relationship is moments like this where I just need a Band-Aid. I put the Band-Aid on, and I have this moment where I'm like, ‘Oh sh*t, that doesn't look like my skin.’ And that little bit of, ‘Eh, it works fine. OK, I don't have any problem with wearing them,'" Ohanian said.

The seasoned entrepreneur is happy that businesses are more focused on “supply and demand” rather than any “woke movement” nonsense, as they are solving the problem of 13% of the US population of color.

“I hope the empathy part does not get lost because I think empathy is better for building great businesses. Again, supply meeting demand—that's what this is. It's not some "woke BS" nonsense; it's supply and demand,” Ohanian said.
“And in the moments where folks for whom the world has been the default aligned for us, you get these moments to just remember, like, "Alright, it's not actually entirely about me,” he added

Serena’s husband Ohanian later explained it gives him a little relief that this sort of band-aids would be a blessing for his children as they would not hurt their feelings and give them a little more empathy.

He said in the video share on his Instagram Stories:

“I think that little feeling of, like, that sort of reminder, especially knowing that Band-Aids like this mean my kids are gonna have Band-Aids they feel better about, makes me feel better. It gives me a little bit more empathy.”

In June 2020, Ohanian resigned from Reddit’s board, urging the company to fill his seat with a Black candidate after the George Floyd incident. He said he wanted to set an example for his daughter, showing her the importance of taking a stand against racial inequality.
