Stefanos Tsitsipas' recent admission about his favorite childhood memory was blatantly ridiculed by several tennis fans. The fans also poked fun at the Greek's girlfriend, former WTA World No. 2 Paula Badosa, with one even relating it to a hilarious recent incident involving Ben Shelton.
Tsitsipas had an up-and-down 2024 season. The former World No. 3 showed promise, especially in the buildup to the French Open (winning the Monte-Carlo Masters and finishing as runner-up at the Barcelona Open). However, his form drastically dropped in the second half of the year, which dashed his hopes of sealing a confirmed playing spot at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he was an alternate.
Recently, Stefanos Tsitsipas took to X and claimed that his favorite childhood memory is "not paying bills."
"My favorite childhood memory? The memory of not paying bills," Tsitsipas wrote.
It didn't take long for Tsitsipas' admission to surface on Reddit. Here, several fans brought up the Greek's relationship with Badosa.
"I think the only person that likes him is Badosa," a fan wrote.
"Between him and Badosa they don’t make one adult brain," commented another fan.
One fan related Tsitsipas' post to Ben Shelton's recent shock after finding out about high car service costs.
"This is giving Ben’s complaint over the shop prices for his expensive car," the fan suggested.
Several fans took swipes at the Greek based on his financial reality. Tsitsipas has earned over $32 million in prize money alone from his ATP Tour-level participation over the years.
"I wish I had his financial "problems"," wrote one fan.
"Dude also lives in Monaco for tax reasons.....," another commented.
"What's his favorite adult memory? Not paying taxes?" yet another chimed in.
This is not the first time that Stefanos Tsitsipas has been trolled by tennis fans this year. Earlier this year, he came under fire after sharing a video seemingly promoting gender stereotypes.
Stefanos Tsitsipas stirred controversy through a video he shared; later clarified his position
In June 2024, Stefanos Tsitsipas shared a video via social media, which depicted a man and a woman living together along with gender-specific roles that seemingly befit them. Several fans perceived the video as regressive and labeled Tsitsipas' act of sharing it "embarrassing."
The Greek later deleted the video and opened up about what he thought of it, which led him to share it in the first place.
"My intentions were completely different from what people saw. I am a very romantic person and I like videos and generally arts that have to do with something beautiful and impressive. I saw it from that side too. I didn't see it as sexist or misogynistic, as it was treated by many people," Tsitsipas told SDNA.
Tsitsipas finished the 2024 season as the World No. 11, with a 45-22 win-loss record, and having won over $3 million in prize money.
