Paris Masters 2024 is slowly heating up on the indoor courts of Bercy. October 31 is slated to be a blockbuster day in the event, as some intriguing round of 16 matches are expected to occur.
Multiple French players will be in action on Thursday, carrying the home hopes. Most prominent of them will be the in-form Ugo Humbert who will be taking on second seed Carlos Alcaraz. Budding youngster Arthur Fils will continue his campaign as he takes on third seed Alexander Zverev.
Other French players in action will be Arthur Cazaux and Arthur Rinderknech, who will be playing Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov, respectively. On that note, let's look at some of the matches slated to take place on Day 4 at the 2024 Paris Masters.
#1. Alexei Popyrin vs Karen Khachanov
Alexei Popyrin has a 28-21 record in 2024. The Australian had his breakthrough moment on the Tour this year, winning his maiden Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open, with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrey Rublev in the final. He also reached the fourth round at the US Open (including a win over Novak Djokovic in the third round) but lost to Frances Tiafoe in four sets.
At the Paris Masters 2024, Popyrin won 7-5, 7-6 (2), over Matteo Berrettini in the first round. The next round saw the Australian knock out the fourth seed Daniil Medvedev, winning 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4).
Karen Khachanov has a 35-21 record so far in 2024, winning two titles. The Russian player is one of the most in-form players on the ATP Tour over the last few weeks. He won the Almaty Open and followed it up by reaching the final of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna.
At the Paris Masters, Khachanov started his campaign with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8) win over Christopher O'Connell. He continued his campaign with a 6-7(12), 6-1, 6-4 win over local favorite Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the next round.
Khachanov leads the head-to-head against Alexei Popyrin 3-1. The duo last met at the semifinal of this year's Qatar Open, with the Russian winning 7-6 (12), 6-2. The recent form puts Khachanov as the favorite to win again.
Predicted winner- Karen Khachanov
#2. Jordan Thompson vs Adrian Mannarino
Jordan Thompson has a 34-23 win/ loss record in 2024, winning his maiden Tour title. The Australian won the Los Cabos Open with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over Casper Ruud in the final. Before the Paris Masters, he last played at the Shanghai Masters, losing 3-6, 2-6 to Tallon Griekspoor in the second round.
At the 2024 Paris Masters, Thompson began his campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Pedro Martinez in the first round. He continued his good form, defeating seventh-seeded Casper Ruud 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4 in the second round.
2024 has been a poor season for Adrian Mannarino, as the French player could only win 15 of the 44 matches he has played so far. His best result came at the Dallas Open, where he reached the semifinals.
Mannarino received a wildcard for the Paris Masters and started by knocking out 11th seed Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-5 in the opening round. In the second round, he won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Zizou Bergs.
Mannarino leads 5-3 in the head-to-head against Thompson. The pair last met at the 2023 Citi Open, where the Australian won 7-5, 6-4. Thompson might be the in-form player, but with the partisan Parisian crowd behind him, Mannrino could make it close.
Predicted winner- Jordan Thompson.
#3. Arthur Fils/ Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs Wesley Koolhof/ Nikola Mektic
The French pair of Arthur Fils and Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard will take on the sixth-seeded pair of Wesly Koolhof and Nikola Mektic in the second round of the 2024 Paris Masters. The pair of Fils and Perricard are not a prolific doubles duo. Before Bercy, they only played one doubles match together in 2024, losing 3-6, 4-6 to the pair of Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic in the opening round of the US Open.
At the Paris Masters, the French pair won 7-5, 7-6 (8) against the alternate pair of Jamie Murray and Jon Peers.
Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic have been one of the most dominant doubles pairs on the ATP Tour this year. The pair have reached six finals altogether, winning four titles, winning the ASB Classic, ABN AMRO Open, BNP Paribas Open, and the Shanghai Masters. They entered Bercy, on the back of a final run at the Swiss Indoors, losing 3-6, 5-7 to Jamie Murray and Jon Peers. Being seeded they received a bye in the opening round at the Paris Masters,
Even though the French pair will have the crowd behind them, the Dutch-Croatian duo is the most experienced and in-form doubles team and therefore will give the advantage.
Predicted winner- Wesley Koolhof/ Nikola Mektic
