Top athletes across all sports have assembled in France for the Paris Olympics 2024, with tennis players contesting their matches from July 27 to August 4. Players will head back to the clay courts of Roland Garros for the same.
Two of the sport's most notable names are set to call it quits after the Games. Three-time Major champions Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber are both set to hang up their racquets for good after the Olympics. The Brit withdrew from singles and will only compete in doubles with Dan Evans.
The German, on the other hand, will face fellow Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the first round of her singles campaign. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner pulled out of the Olympics due to tonsillitis.
Most of the top players on the men's side are accounted for, including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Carlos Alcaraz. The two Spaniards have joined forces to participate in men's doubles as well. As for the Serb, he's on the hunt to finally lay his hands on the Olympic gold medal.
Iga Swiatek leads the women's singles field, and given her record at the French Open, she is the outright favorite to bag the gold medal. Aryna Sabalenka is the only player from the top 10 to skip the Olympics. Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini, and Danielle Collins are among the other leading ladies in the fray.
Players are always eager to give it their all when it comes to the Olympics, considering the four-year wait between the Games. While tennis is largely an individual sport, that perception goes for a toss when it comes to the Olympics.
