Iga Swiatek dug deep to survive a massive scare against Naomi Osaka in their 2024 French Open second-round clash. However, after the match, Swiatek pointed out that the fans were shouting mid-rally which was troubling, and asked the crowd to avoid it. However, Paula Badosa has disagreed with the Pole.

Swiatek played a blockbuster second-round tie against Osaka and won the match 7-6(1), 1-6, 7-5. The Pole was down 2-5 in the decider and the Japanese looked set to cause one of the biggest upsets of the season. However, the World No. 1 dug deep and showed resilience to win five games in a row and advance.

During her post-match speech, Swiatek politely asked the crowd to avoid shouting while the rallies were being played. She asked them to cheer on their favorite players after the rallies but not in the middle as it causes players to lose focus.

Osaka contradicted Swiatek's comments and claimed she did not find the crowd troubling. Badosa was also asked about Swiatek's comments during a press conference and the Spaniard said the 22-year-old should not be making such complaints.

She called the Pole "lucky" to be able to play at the Philippe-Chatrier. Badosa's comment enraged fans who took to X to express their displeasure.

"Jealous much? She worked hard to be on Chatrier. Where else would the double defending champ be playing at?" one fan asked.
"Wouldn’t say Iga is very lucky to play every match on Chatrier unless luck is winning the French Open 3 times," another fan wrote.
"Badosa messed up on this big time, one of the worse tennis quotes/takes I've read recently Especially the Iga lucky part....eugh," a third fan wrote.
"No Iga is not lucky to play on Chatrier all the time, she is number 1! If you want a better court Paula, play better," yet another fan wrote.

Several fans mentioned that Badosa and Swiatek's points of view are different. There is a different experience on different courts.

"Well, I think it's more like white noise in Paula's court 8 or 9 case, it's different from shouting with the player's rally pace," one fan wrote.
"There is a way big difference in noise making by fans in open space than under closet stadium with closet roof. Just saying," another fan wrote.

During her media duties after the match, Iga Swiatek explained her decision to call out the French Open crowd.

“I got the most frustrated when I missed that drop volley. Somebody shouted when the ball was flying to me,” she said (via Tennis Majors).

Iga Swiatek further claimed that such an incident occurred more than once. She knew that she had to be more focused but she is accustomed to a more silent crowd during her matches. The Pole claimed she just wanted to point out that playing with the crowd making noise mid-rally is not easy.
