Stefanos Tsitsipas received heartfelt support from his girlfriend, Paula Badosa, following his early exit from the 2025 Australian Open. The Greek was knocked out in the opening round.
Tsitsipas' luck at Grand Slams hasn't been kind lately, and it was no different when he took to the court in Melbourne on Monday, January 13, to face Alex Michelsen. The Greek looked all over the place during the match and succumbed to a 5-7, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6 defeat in two hours and 43 minutes.
Tsitsipas’ fortunes may not have favored him on the court, but in his personal life, he continues to find unwavering support from his girlfriend, Paula Badosa. Following his setback, the No. 11 seed addressed his loss in an Instagram post, writing:
"Every toss begins with hope, every swing carries purpose, and every fist pump reminds me why I love this journey. Tennis is more than wins or losses - it’s the quiet clarity before the serve, the fight in every rally, and the balance of preparation and execution. These moments - raw, honest, and unfiltered. These are the moments that keep me coming back."
Badosa commented under the post, writing:
"Once a champion, always a champion."
Badosa, who is also competing at the Australian Open, successfully navigated her first-round match with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory over Wang Xinyu. She is set to face Talia Gibson next on Wednesday, January 14.
Stefanos Tsitsipas: "There is a reason Alex Michelsen beat me
Stefanos Tsitsipas addressed the media following his first-round loss to Alex Michelsen at the 2025 Australian Open. He acknowledged that he was aware of the challenge posed by his "dangerous" opponent, recalling his defeat to the American at the Tokyo Open last year.
"He was a difficult first-round match. I knew I was dealing with a pretty serious opponent because I’ve played him before and I’ve lost,” Tsitsipas said.
He added:
“I knew coming into this match things don’t suddenly change. There is a reason he beat me in our previous encounter. So, I knew I had to be on top of my game to try and win this match.”
Tsitsipas is a former Australian Open finalist, having reached the championship match in 2023, where he fell to Novak Djokovic.
