Taylor Townsend has shared a hilarious experience of being mistaken for World No. 3 Coco Gauff in Riyadh. The 28-year-old also revealed that her friend, Simeon Kelley Jr., was amusingly misidentified by people as the famous American rapper Travis Scott.
Townsend, currently in Riyadh for the doubles draw of the WTA Finals, shared a clip on her Instagram story:
"Starting the day off with a bang guys. So I was outside the hotel, and people stopped us saying you are Coco. And they stopped sam, and they said Travis Scott! We know you are from somewhere. And John is wearing his hat, look at me, look at me, turn, oh my god!" Taylor Townsend said.
World No. 69 Townsend frequently shares her life experiences on social media. A few weeks ago, the American showcased her elegant white bridesmaid look, crediting Serena Williams' beauty brand, Wyn. The 28-year-old also recently shared a hilarious video from her home, in which she vacuums the floor in clear frustration. Jokingly, she suggested that these struggles made her ready for a husband.
Gauff, currently ranked No. 3, is part of the Orange group in the WTA finals.
Taylor Townsend and Coco Gauff lead their groups at the WTA Finals
Taylor Townsend is partnering with Czechia's Kateřina Siniaková in the doubles competition at the WTA Finals. The duo faced a tough challenge in their first group stage match against Jelena Ostapenko and Lyudmyka Kichenok but won 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.
Townsend and Siniaková next faced Ellen Perez and Nicole Melichar-Martínez, and with little resistance, the former duo emerged victorious in straight sets.
By winning two of their three group matches, Townsend and Siniaková have boosted their chances of reaching the semifinals and currently sit at the top of the table. Their final group stage match will be against the third-seeded duo of Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei on Wednesday, November 6.
Meanwhile, third-seeded Coco Gauff also sits atop her Orange Group. The 20-year-old's first match was against compatriot Jessica Pegula, which she won convincingly in straight sets.
Gauff defeated five-time Major champion Iga Światek in her second group stage match. The American claimed the first set 6-3 and, with little challenge, secured the second 6-4, strengthening her chances of semifinal qualification. The World No. 3 will next face Barbora Krejčíková on Thursday, November 7.
