Anisimova had two major career breakthroughs in 2019, at age 17. She advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open by defeating Aryna Sabalenka. Her next successful stint that year was the French Open, where she upset Simona Halep to reach the semifinals, becoming the youngest player in over a decade to advance to that stage.
In 2024, the 23-year-old made her first WTA 1000 final at the Canadian Open, becoming the lowest-ranked singles finalist since 1984. Concluding her season with a second-round exit from the Wuhan Open, Anisimova busied herself with off-season activities, vacationing on a beach during Thanksgiving and attending a friend's wedding.
Amanda Anisimova took to her Instagram stories this week to share a story of a household mishap. A candle jar fell and broke with pieces of glass and candle wax sticking to the floor. The caption read,
"I actually can't even rn. That's candle wax with glass... stuck to the fn floor"
In another Instagram story, she posted a selfie taken in a car while on a drive with her team. One of her coaches, Rick Vleeshouwers, didn't have a great experience with a food item. She captioned the post,
"Starbucks egg bites, iykyk, gotta let them cool off. That's it for today lol"
Amanda Anisimova's first tour title came at the 2019 Copa Colsanitas, and she finished that season with a career-high singles ranking of World No. 21.
Amanda Anisimova took a break from tennis in 2023 to take care of her mental health
Amanda Anisimova earned success at a young age but also faced mental struggles. On May 5, 2023, she took to her Instagram handle to share her difficulties, announcing a break from professional tennis to prioritize her mental well-being.
Anisimova wrote:
"Hey guys. I thought I’d make a post explaining what’s been going on and my plans. I’ve really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022. It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support"
The 23-year-old returned to the court at the 2024 Aukland Open, advancing to the second round before losing to Marie Bouzkova 6-0, 6-1. Anisimova had a successful junior career before she turned professional, achieving second position in the world rankings.
