Following her retirement from professional tennis in February 2020, Sharapova has embraced her role as a mother and partner with grace. Her engagement to Gilkes in December 2020 marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
The couple welcomed their son Theodore on July 1, 2022 and they are known for their love of art and travel, often sharing glimpses of their adventures with the two-year-old on social media.
On that crisp December day, Gilkes and Theodore embarked on their quest for the ideal Christmas tree. The 45-year-old shared, an endearing picture of his son exploring the Christmas trees, wandering through the rows, and taking in the sights and scents.

Last month, Maria Sharapova, her fiance Alexander Gilkes, and their son Theodore celebrated Thanksgiving with a family trek. On her Instagram story on November 28, 2024, the Russian shared glimpses of their hiking adventure under the crisp winter sun.
One story showed the 37-year-old holding a basket of flowers, followed by a snapshot of her fiance navigating a rugged hillside and keeping a watchful eye on Theodore.

Maria Sharapova stated that strolling with son Theodore was her go-to workout
In a May 2023 interview with SELF magazine, Maria Sharapova shared that her preferred exercise was taking walks with her firstborn, Theodore.
The former World No. 1 mentioned how Theodore keenly observes his surroundings during their walks, with his eyes lighting up at the sight of birds or any signs of life.
"I’ll do some silly biceps curls while I’m walking, and the weight is not heavy, but at least I’m moving. It feels really good on the body. [Theodore] observes everything," Sharapova said. "You see it in their eyes, like wow, this bird or this leaf. They’re discovering things in life for the first time."
The former World No. 1 revealed that becoming a mother has been incredibly rewarding. In a Tennis Channel interview during the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, she revealed that the negotiation skills from her tennis and business careers have been surprisingly useful in parenting.
