Roger Federer's parents, Robert and Lynette, were back in a tennis stadium, but this time not for their son. They were there to support the Swiss Davis Cup team at the Swiss Tennis Arena in Biel, Switzerland. On Saturday, in a World Group I tie, the Swiss team of Jérôme Kym, Marc-Andrea Hüsler, Rémy Bertola, and Dominic Stricker defeated Peru 4-0.

Roger Federer's father, Robert, hails from the canton of St. Gallen, while his mother, Lynette, is an Afrikaner from Gauteng, South Africa. As a result, Federer and his older sister, Diana, hold Swiss and South African citizenship. His parents played a significant role in the early stages of his tennis career, with his mother enrolling him at the Old Boys Tennis Club in Basel when he was eight years old.

During the match on Saturday evening, a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted an image showing Roger Federer’s parents applauding from the stands.

Before retiring in 2022, he was a regular member of the Swiss Davis Cup team, leading them to their first and only Davis Cup victory in 2014. He also holds the record for the most singles wins in the tournament with a 40–8 record and shares the record for the most appearances, 15 years, with Heinz Günthardt.

In October 2023, Roger Federer was interviewed by GQ Germany and revealed that, at age 16, he decided to quit school to focus on his tennis career. He made a deal with his parents, agreeing that he would return to school if his tennis didn't work out.

“At 14, I moved out of home and went to a performance center. Those were probably the two most important years of my life. I learned so much for life. When I was 16, I decided to quit school. I tried online lessons for a few months, but then I quickly realized that I couldn't do both and that I had to put everything on the line”
“I made a deal with my parents to give tennis a realistic chance and if it didn't work out, I would go back to school immediately and without complaining. What can I say, it worked out (laughs).” He said

The Swiss was exceptional as a junior player, topping the world junior rankings and earning the title of ITF Junior World Champion in 1998. He won the Boys' Singles title at Wimbledon in 1998 and also claimed the Boys' Doubles title with partner Olivier Rochus.
