Taylor Fritz recently opened up about playing video games 12 hours a day and eating unhealthily as a coping mechanism after his 2024 US Open final loss. Fritz was defeated by World No. 1 Jannik Sinner 3-6, 4-6, 5-7 in the summit clash.

The American had a good campaign at the New York Slam. He went past Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini, and Francisco Comesana to reach the fourth round. The 26-year-old then defeated Casper Ruud before downing Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, Fritz faced Frances Tiafoe, whom he defeated in a five-set thriller to reach the final.

Recently, the American joined Sam Querrey, John Isner, Steve Johnson, and Jack Sock on their Nothing Major Podcast. He was asked what he had been up to since the heartbreaking 2024 US Open final. Fritz revealed that he had fallen into 'destructive habits' such as playing video games 12 hours a day and eating unhealthily.

"To be honest, I feel probably worse than I would have expected to feel if you told me I was making a Slam final. I have been sitting at my desk, playing video games like 12 hours a day, eating pretty unhealthy. Honestly really just destructive habits when I am by myself after a tournament," Fritz said.

The World No. 7 also stated how difficult it was to practice in Florida, owing to high temperatures.

"It's been so insanely hot in Florida right now like it's so hot. I got to the point at the end of practices where like swinging the racquet was making me just absolutely gassed. Like I was about to pass out," he said.

The 26-year-old also said that he has been getting recognized more often since his finals run at the New York Slam.

"Like I said I have been in my room playing video games for 12 hours a day but when I walk outside, two blocks, to go to the Chipotle or Starbucks across the street, yes I have been, I have definitely noticed a little bit different," Fritz said.

Taylor Fritz choked up during the presentation ceremony at the 2024 US Open as he issued an apology to the fans. Andy Roddick remains the last American to win a Major title, having won the 2003 US Open.

Fritz could not break Roddick's record and issued a heartfelt apology while also promising he would work hard to end America's Grand Slam drought.

"I know you've been waiting for a (American) champion for a long time, so I'm sorry I couldn't get it done this time, but I'm going to keep working and hopefully I'll get it done next time, thank you," Fritz said.

Getting over his loss, Taylor Fritz recently made a dashing appearance at the BOSS Spring/Summer 2025 Milan show.
