Nadal announced on October 10, 2024, that his final game would be at the Davis Cup, where he will be joined by Alcaraz, representing Spain. The Spaniard announced his retirement through a video, in which he said:

"I'm here to let you know that I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, especially the last two. I don't think I have been able to play without difficulties. In this life, everything has a beginning and an end. And I think it’s the appropriate time to put an end to a career that has been long and much more successful than I could have ever imagined."

Carlos Alcaraz opened up about his game against Rafael Nadal

In a post-match interview, Carlos Alcaraz reflected on his victory over Rafael Nadal in Riyadh, acknowledging the exceptional effort required to secure the win. He admitted to the match’s intensity and expressed his joy at having the opportunity to play against Nadal again.

"No. trust me I had to play at my best level. Obviously, Rafa has been out of competition. In tennis you have to have matches on the court to feel good. I knew I had to be focused. Try to play my best tennis if I want to best Rafa. It's always tough. It's been a good moment and a good time sharing the court with him once agai"

Nadal also commended Alcaraz for his game and referred to him as "too good."

"It was a pleasure. Carlos was too good. He's playing fantastic the last few years being better and better. I tried. I haven't been competitive since a couple months ago. It was a good performance. It wasn't enough to play against an animal like him. It was a positive moment for me. I’m very happy."

Nadal will next face Novak Djokovic in the third-place play-off on October 19, at the Six Kings Slam.
