Rafael Nadal and his sister Maribel celebrated Spain's triumph in the UEFA Euro 2024 semifinal. Carlos Alcaraz was also spotted at Wimbledon watching ecstatically as Spain led the match 2-1.
Alcaraz got the better of Tommy Paul in their Wimbledon quarterfinal clash on Tuesday, July 9. Soon after his triumph, Spain's football team took on France in the semifinal of the European Championships. The 21-year-old was spotted watching the initial stages of the match before going for his press conference.
After he came out, he was spotted watching the match ecstatically as Spain were leading. Watch Alcaraz's excitement below:
It was France who had taken the lead early in the match. Randal Kolo Muani scored in the ninth minute with France's first open-play goal of the tournament.
However, Spain staged a fantastic comeback led by the 16-year-old Lamine Yamal. The young Barcelona winger scored with a magnificent curling effort to restore parity, becoming the youngest goalscorer in EURO history.
Just four minutes after Yamal scored in the 21st minute, Dani Olmo's low drive also found its way into the back of the net after getting a deflection from Joules Kounde.
After taking the lead, Spain held on to maintain their 100% record at the tournament and became the first finalist. They await the result of England vs. the Netherlands to know the second finalist.
Rafael Nadal, his sister Maribel, and Alcaraz put up Instagram Stories to celebrate Spain's win.
Carlos Alcaraz and Spain forward Alvaro Morata's lucky pact
Carlos Alcaraz has mentioned Spain and football during his run at Wimbledon multiple times as it has clashed with Spain's UEFA Euro participation.
After his win over Tommy Paul in the quarterfinal at SW19, the 21-year-old mentioned that he was thinking slightly about Spain's semifinal against France in the latter stages of the fourth set of his quarterfinal. During a press conference, he also revealed that he is a lucky charm for the Spanish forward, Alvaro Morata.
“When I finished, he [Morata] send me some photos that he was watching (my) match before their match,” Carlos Alcaraz said.
"It was kind of lucky because he told me, Okay, I'm going to talk to you because every time that we spoke, we won! It’s kind of lucky.”
The defending champion will face Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal at Wimbledon on July 12, a rematch of last year's semifinal. Alcaraz won the match last year and currently leads their head-to-head 4-2.
