Rafael Nadal has pulled out from this year's Wimbledon Championships according to recent reports from Spain. The 22-time Major winner is currently preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which begins on July 26.

Nadal is in the middle of what could very well be his last season on the ATP Tour. Considering his injury woes from last year, he has given a good account of himself. He displayed his trademark fierceness during his first-round loss at the French Open against eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev.

Earlier on Thursday (June 12), David Ferrer, who will be the captain of Spain's men's tennis team in Paris, reportedly announced that Rafael Nadal will withdraw from this year's Wimbledon. The move comes as little surprise, as the former World No. 1 is eyeing Olympic glory next month.

The Spaniard has made 15 career appearances at Wimbledon during his illustrious career, taking home the men's singles trophy on two occasions (2008, 2010). The 2022 edition of the tournament marked his last outing at SW19.

David Ferrer has also confirmed the news of Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz pairing up for the men's doubles competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Speaking to the media, he expressed hope that the Spanish Armada brings home multiple medals.

"I couldn't win a medal as a player, I hope to do so as captain," he said (via Marca). "One couple is Nadal and Alcaraz and the second is yet to be decided. We are confident that there may be more than one medal."

The 22-time Major winner, meanwhile, spoke positively about the prospect of joining forces with Alcaraz in an interview with Marca in April.

“No, he doesn’t have to ask me anything. I think all things being well, we will play. It’s also hugely exciting for me," the Spaniard told Marca. "If I am not mistaken, I have heard it is from him too. So it would be amazing to play the odd tournament before the Olympics to prepare ourselves to get some rapport on the court."
"I think if we are both fit enough, then why not. We could have the chance to form a great team and aspire to great things," he added. "It would be good for both of us. I think it would also be good for the Spanish team. So we will see how things progress."
