Fans were not happy with Barbora Krejcikova being asked a question about facing Elena Rybakina in the Wimbledon semifinals. The Czech booked her place in the last four of the London Major after beating Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 7-6(4) in the quarterfinals.

The Czech has had an incredible run so far at SW 19, where she was the 31st seed. Krejcikova did not have the easiest of starts as she reached the third round with hard-fought wins over Veronika Kudermetova (7-6(4), 6-7(1), 7-5) and Katie Volynets (7-6(6), 7-6(5)).

The 28-year-old then had a walkover win over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro while leading 6-0, 4-3 before triumphing 7-5, 6-3 over 11th seed Danielle Collins to reach her second Grand Slam quarterfinal of 2024.

Here, she ousted Jelena Ostapenko to make it to the Wimbledon semifinals for the very first time in her career. It was also the first time Barbora Krejcikova reached the final four of a Major since her victorious run at the 2021 French Open.

Following her win over Ostapenko, the Czech was asked how she felt about facing someone like Rybakina in the semifinals. She responded by saying:

"Well I don't know, I will see in the semifinals. I've never experienced anything like this so I will see and I can tell you after semifinals how does it feel.

Several fans were far from happy with a question like that being asked to Barbora Krejcikova, with one calling for interviews of that sort to be removed.

"They have to remove these on court interviews from every tournament," the fan said.

Another fan slammed the interviewer for "making it sound" that Krejcikova never played a Grand Slam semifinal before.

"He made it sound like Barbora has never played a Slam semifinal," the fan stated.

Another fan called the question "rubbish".

"How do you ask a former top 5 that rubbish question. She’s leading rybakina 2-0 head to head. Has 11 slams both single and doubles," the fan said.

Here are some more fan reactions:

"Barbs is being real humble here. She is a former world number 2 and a singles grand slam title winner too. In what world is Rybakina who has the same number of singles grandslam title as her better? (Digged up the stats and Barbs leads her 2-0," one fan said.
"She is completely right in her answer. Journalists must learn to formulate questions that resonate with new generations. The younger the player, the sharper the questions must be. They cannot continue asking the same old questions," one fan commented.
"Embarrassing interviewer," another fan said.

Barbora Krejcikova's semifinal opponent Elena Rybakina has had an impressive run so far at Wimbledon 2024, dropping just one set en route. The Kazak triumphed 6-3, 6-2 over 21st seed Elina Svitolina to reach the final four of the grass-court Major for just the second time in her career.

The Wimbledon semifinal will be the third meeting between Barbora Krejcikova and Elena Rybakina. The Czech has won both of their previous two encounters.

Their first match came in the second round of the 2021 Grampians Trophy in Melbourne, where a then-unseeded Krejcikova defeated fourth-seeded Rybakina 4-6, 6-2[10-6]. The second match between the two came in the semifinals of the AGEL Open in Ostrava, with the Czech once again coming back from a set down to defeat the Kazakh 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4.

Whoever out of the two comes out on top, will face either seventh seed Jasmine Paolini or Donna Vekic in the Wimbledon final.
