Fans responded with a blend of humor and frustration as Taylor Fritz suffered yet another defeat against Novak Djokovic in the Shanghai Masters semifinals, bringing their head-to-head record to 10-0 in favor of the Serb. One fan humorously remarked that even a retired Roger Federer might have a better shot at beating Djokovic.
The World No. 4 has been in scintillating form since returning to tour in Shanghai. He reached the semifinals without dropping a set but his opponent Fritz had a similar record at the event.
Djokovic, however, was more clinical and displayed his signature gritty defense to overcome Fritz 6-4, 7-6(6) in their clash at the Shanghai Masters on Saturday, October 12.
This marked the 10th meeting between the pair in five years, with the Serb triumphing in every encounter. Djokovic has won eight of these matches in straight sets, claiming 23 sets overall, while Fritz has managed to win just three.
Several fans took to X to highlight the 26-year-old's disappointing record against the Serb. One fan jokingly stated that Federer, who retired in 2022, may have a better chance against Djokovic than Fritz. They wrote:
"I think the retired Federer is more likely to beat Djoko than Fritz is.."
One fan posted an image of a man in front of a complex electrical panel with a confused stance, writing:
"Fritz 0-10 against Djokovic"
"Taylor Fritz is pathetic, 0-10 record vs Djokovic," another fan wrote.
Here are more fan reactions to Taylor Fritz's 0-10 record against Novak Djokovic.
"How badly does Djokovic has to play for Fritz to be able to defeat him? Cause that's a horrible match, jesus," one fan wrote.
"Fritz not being able to get through a knee-less djokovic is so beautiful to watch," another fan wrote.
"Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz is a hell of a one-sided match-up," another fan wrote.
Novak Djokovic eyes 100th tour-level title as he faces Jannik Sinner in Shanghai Masters 2024 final
At the Paris Olympics this year, Novak Djokovic won the 99th title of his career. In Shanghai, he has reached his first final since the Olympics and he will be hoping to join the elite and short list of players with 100 men's singles title.
In his path, however, is the in-form World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Italian won the Cincinnati Open, the US Open, and finished runner-up at the China Open before reaching the Shanghai Masters final.
Sinner and Djokovic have faced each other seven times on tour with the Serb leading 4-3. Their last encounter was in the semifinal of the Australian Open earlier this year which was won by the Italian.
Sinner will be hoping to bag his seventh title of the season while Djokovic will look to join Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) in the 100-plus titles club. The Shanghai Masters final will take place on Sunday, October 13.
