"Rewatch Sinner-Medvedev and you'll see"- Fans react to tennis insider's remark on potential 2025 edition of Ben Shelton-Carlos Alcaraz's Garden Cup

Tennis insider asking for the inclusion of Jannik Sinner in the potential 2025 edition of Garden Cup, which saw Ben Shelton take on Carlos Alcaraz, has sparked discussions among tennis fans. Claiming that the insider, Jon Wertheim, was 'clueless', the fans felt that Alcaraz and Shelton was the bigger draw in America than the Italian.

Alcaraz and Shelton sent the sold-out Madison Square Garden of 19,000+ into a frenzy with their electrifying tennis during the Garden Cup. The high-quality thriller ended up with the Spaniard turning things around to win 4-6, 6-2, 1-0.

Tennis insider Jon Wertheim took to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the event's success and suggest ways to improve it in the following year. One of his suggestions was to get Jannik Sinner.

"Rave reviews all around for this NYC event, not least the crowd size...Get a title sponsor (and get Sinner?) and run it back in 2025."

However, fans took umbrage at Wertheim's comments. One fan asked Wertheim to watch Sinner's match against Daniil Medvedev at the Six Kings Slam, seemingly implying that it didn't reach the same entertainment levels as Ben Shelton vs Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner won the match 6-0, 6-3 in 68 minutes.

"You need to rewatch Sinner vs Medvedev at the 6 Kings Slam exho and you will see why it's not a good idea," the fan wrote.

Another fan called Wertheim 'clueless' for thinking Sinner was a bigger draw than Ben Shelton or Carlos Alcaraz in America.

"Is Wertheim actually this clueless about tennis in the US bc Carlos is far more popular than Jannik at this point here and Americans always care more about seeing Americans lol," the fan commented.

"We as a society have enough of jannik sinner. no need to push more," a fan wrote.

"Sinner is not the draw these guys are," another said.

However, while Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton were engaged in their enthralling battle, Jannik Sinner and his Italian teammates were honored at the SuperTennis Awards in Milan for their historic double triumph.

And though there may be calls to add Sinner to the Garden Cup, Ben Shelton, the home favorite, has called Carlos Alcaraz his favorite player to play against.

While talking to the media ahead of their exhibition match, Ben Shelton called Carlos Alcaraz his favorite player to play against since his clashes with the Spaniard made the crowd go crazy.

“Favorite player to share the court with because of how creative he is and the style he plays. Every time we play, you hear the crowd go crazy on both sides (…). It’s one of the games I enjoy the most,” the American said. (via EFE.com)

Ben Shelton and Carlos Alcaraz have played twice in their careers with the Spaniard winning on both occasions. Their most recent meeting came at the Laver Cup where Alcaraz led Team Europe to a win. Following the event, Shelton joked about how the Spaniard was 'Thanos'.
