Belinda Bencic, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist, is set to mark her comeback in 2025 after giving birth to her daughter, Bella, in April 2024. The Swiss star has sought advice from another Swiss legend, Roger Federer, on balancing parenthood and professional tennis.

Federer has four children and has been an inspiration to many for managing his family life alongside his professional career. Having witnessed Federer managing his family during tournaments, Bencic wished to learn from him. She discussed her challenges, but for now, she has it under control.

In a recent press conference at the 2025 Australian Open, Bencic shared her thoughts on balancing her professional and personal lives. She said:

“Yeah, for sure. I mean, we talk from time to time. Of course, he has four kids so that's a whole different situation. You know, I saw them at the Hopman Cup and also in the Grand Slams, and it's just impressive how the whole logistics works with them. I think that's something we can pick up from and learn from it, but for now, I think we are managing it really good. But as I said, you know, even here in Australia, it's a test for us. It's our first long trip, and I think we are seeing how we are managing everything. But for now, it's good.”

Bencic said that she follows the example set by other players, including Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka, who have shown that elite tennis and motherhood can mix. Federer's experience is different but his success in both fields provides a unique template.

When Bencic steps to the line, she won't just compete — she will break new ground for working mothers in sport, proving that with commitment and flexibility, new frontiers are always within reach.

Belinda Bencic gained entry to the 2025 Australian Open by using her protected ranking, which she received for her pregnancy. The Swiss player participated in the warm-up tournaments ahead of the Grand Slam.

Bencic was a part of Team Switzerland at the United Cup, where she played two matches. She lost against the current World No. 4, Jasmine Paolini, in straight sets. The Swiss won her second round against Chloe Paquet of France, 6-3, 6-1. She played four matches in the Adelaide International, including the qualifiers. She was knocked out in the Round of 16 by the Russian tennis player Liudmila Samsonova, 6-7, 6-4, 4-6.

The former World No. 4 marks her first journey to Australia with her daughter, Bella. She will be facing the sixteenth seed of the tournament, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia on Monday, January 13. This will be a completely new experience for the Swiss, wherein she will learn invaluable lessons to balance her career and personal life.
