Roger Federer on his daughters and sons following in his footsteps with a career in tennis: "I don't know if they will be champions"

Roger Federer recently opened up about whether he believes his children will follow in his footsteps with a career in tennis, stating that all his children like to play the sport. While the Swiss icon admitted that he doesn't know yet whether they will be great champions in the future, he was happy to see them taking a liking to the game he dedicated his life to.

Federer and his wife Mirka married in 2009 and have four children together. Their daughters, identical twins named Myla and Charlene, were born in 2009. In 2014, Mirka gave birth to another set of twins (fraternal), two boys named Leo and Lenny.

Speaking in an interview with Gazetta ahead of the release of his upcoming 'Federer: Twelve Final Days' documentary, the 20-time Grand Slam champion revealed that his girls played tennis every other day. While he conceded that his boys were still too young, he saw in them the desire to be champions.

As of now, Federer was simply happy that his kids had an active lifestyle, regardless of the long road that lies ahead of them if they want to have a successful career in pro sports.

"I don't know if they will be champions, but it makes me happy that all four of them like to play tennis. The twins play 3-4 times a week. The boys are still young, but I see their desire to be champions. Obviously, Everest is not climbed in one night. It's a long road. For now, I like that they are active," Federer said (via Punto de Break).

In an interview with GQ Sports earlier, Federer revealed that he and Mirka made his kids play tennis because they did not want them to be the only ones in their circle who did not play.

"We make them play... because I don't want my kids to be the only kids in my circle not to play. And obviously, I live in a tennis circle, and otherwise, they're the only kids not playing because all the other kids play tennis and this is their passion," Federer said.

The 'Federer: Twelve Final Days' documentary, set to release on June 20 on Amazon Prime, will capture the final days of Roger Federer's career, with a primary focus on his farewell tournament at the 2022 Laver Cup.

Now retired, the Swiss maestro shed light on how he spends his days without the rigorous demands of a professional athlete career, joking that he slept a little less these days because he doesn't have the excuse of matches anymore.

The former World No. 1 further added that he had several fun projects to keep himself occupied, as well as helping his children with their school. Other than that, Federer noted that he played as much tennis as possible, but as a leisurely activity this time around.

"Very good. I sleep a little less because I no longer have the excuse of training or games. My daughters are 15 and the little ones are 10. We spent a lot of time together in Switzerland and traveled a lot," Federer said in the interview with Gazetta.

"I have several very fun projects on the go, like this one with Amazon, to which I dedicate time and energy. Normally, I get up very early and go to the gym. Then I help my children get ready and take them to school. I try to stay in shape and play tennis as much as I can," he added.
