Roger Federer corrected Carlos Alcaraz's bowtie in an adorable moment at the black carpet event before the 2024 Laver Cup. The Swiss tennis legend later admitted that the young Spaniard’s bow tie needed his attention.
Alcaraz is making his debut this year at the Laver Cup, an event that was created by Federer's management company, TEAM8, along with other partners.
In 2022, then-19-year-old Alcaraz watched Federer retire at the event but two years later the Spaniard's Laver Cup journey came full circle as he spent quality time with the Swiss at the tournament.
At the Laver Cup’s black carpet event, which precedes the on-court action, celebrities from various sports arrived in style.
Alcaraz and Federer looked dashing in their outfits, but the Swiss legend noticed a small flaw in the young Spaniard’s attire—his bow tie was out of place. Federer stepped in to fix it, a moment that reminded many of when he had similarly adjusted Nadal's suit a few years ago.
In a candid talk in the studio recently, Federer was shown the adorable moment when he fixed Alcaraz's bowtie.
"Carlos' bow tie was so out of place, I needed to fix it...," he said.
The Swiss was reminded about how he fixed Nadal's suit as well to which he responded:
"Ties and bowties is an issue for the players [but not for you] No, it took me a while."
Federer and Alcaraz's developing bond has been one of the talking points of this year's event. The Swiss even watched the young Spaniard play in the doubles match on the first day.
"It was great, honestly, playing in front of Roger Federer" - Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Laver Cup
On the first day of the 2024 Laver Cup, Team Europe and Team World ended the day tied 2-2. Francisco Curndolo defeated Casper Ruud to give Team World the lead before Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis and Grigor Dimitrov defeated Alejandro Tabilo to snatch the lead for Team Europe.
The last match of the day was the only doubles match between Europe's Alexander Zverev-Carlos Alcaraz and the World's Taylor Fritz-Ben Shelton. Team World's American pair got the job done in straight sets but Alcaraz was happy to play in front of Federer.
"Well, it was great, honestly, playing in front of him. It's the first time that he watch one of my matches in real life, and I'm really happy that he was there, you know, watching our doubles," Carlos Alcaraz said during a press conference.
"As I said, he watch doubles match. Well, I think I'm good but I'm not as good as the singles, I guess (smiling). I hope to see him tomorrow in the singles. I hope he enjoyed the doubles match," he added.
Alcaraz will be hoping that Federer pays the Uber Arena in Berlin a visit on Day 2 as the Spaniard will be taking Ben Shelton in a singles match.
