Roger Federer recently spoke about his extensive sneaker collection and addressed the rumor that he owns more than 250 pairs of shoes. The Swiss tennis legend also holds a stake in the Swiss athletic apparel company On, where he plays a key role in the development of their shoes.

Federer was previously associated with Nike and wore their clothing and shoes on the court. However, he made a move to Japanese apparel brand Uniqlo in 2018 after signing a lucrative ten-year deal worth $300 million. From then on, he started wearing Uniqlo apparel and On sneakers during his matches.

During an interview with Complex in New York, Federer addressed the rumors about his extensive collection of 250 pairs of sneakers. He confirmed that he does indeed own a substantial number of pairs, although he couldn't provide an exact count.

The former World No.1 also revealed that he is in the process of building a new home where he plans to create a special display area for his tennis shoes and memorabilia.

"I have no idea what the number is but it's true I still have a lot of shoes and you know you can only wear so many pairs but it's true. I'm actually building a new house now. So I would like to create a nice space where we're going to be able to see a lot of the shoes and you know a lot of my past tennis shoes I played with or just memorabilia," he said [2:17].

The Swiss legend stated that over the years he has amassed a large collection of shoes, some of which he has auctioned off for his foundation. He said that he is now looking forward to flaunting the remaining pairs in his new home.

"I collected a lot. I actually even auctioned 300 items for the Roger Federer Foundation. Just recently we made like 3 million dollars but still have some pieces obviously left and maybe want to just expose it like a small space in my house downstairs," he added [2:37].

In the aforementioned interview, Roger Federer shared a fascinating anecdote about the tennis shoes he wore during his early teenage years. He recalled how he would quickly wear out multiple pairs of shoes but was happy to have enough of them.

"The tennis shoes, I mean honestly I was going through so many shoes so you're just happy to have enough of them," he said [1:38].

The 20-time Grand Slam champion went on to reveal that there was a company in Switzerland that would only repair the outsoles of shoes that had been worn down from intense practice sessions. He said that the company would simply replace the outsole instead of discarding the entire shoe as the rest of the shoe would be in good condition.

"Actually there was a company back in Switzerland at the time because I was going through my shoes so quickly they would cut out the outsole at the bottom and put in a new one. The shoe was still good but the outsole was used. That was in my early teens," he added [1:44].

The Roger Federer-backed company, On, also sponsors tennis stars like Iga Swiatek and Ben Shelton among others.
