Serena Williams recently spoke to Vanity Fair during a segment where the magazine covered her and gymnastics star Simone Biles to "highlight the importance of leadership".
The 43-year-old admittedly wanted to leave her imprint on the world outside tennis. Furthermore, she claimed that the "best part of her is yet to come" while discussing her business aspirations.
"I feel like there’s so much more to my story," Serena Williams told Vanity Fair. "I feel like the best part of me is yet to come. I feel like tennis was a great opportunity to open so many more doors of talent that I have."
Williams also talked positively about her VC firm 'Serena Ventures', through which she has invested in over 85 companies.
"So that's when the idea of Serena Ventures came on, which is really talking about diversity and really investing in women, investing in people of color, women of color," she said. "But diversity means everyone, we don't care what you are, we really want to invest in a great idea."
Serena Williams: "I have always loved the opportunity to be a role model"
During the interaction, Serena Williams also rejoiced at the privilege of being a role model to countless fans. By her own account, it came naturally to her as she has always led an 'authentic life'.
"I have always loved the opportunity to be a role model. It really fit me because I was living a life which was very authentic," Williams said. "What you see in the front is what you get in the back."
The 23-time Major winner had already set her sights on her brands, Serena Ventures, and S by Serena, and becoming a co-owner of National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team Angel City F.C. before pulling the curtains on her career. Earlier this year, the American launched Wyn Beauty—a vegan and cruelty-free makeup company that caters to multiple skin tones.
