Serena Williams' former coach, Rick Macci, has been making bold predictions about the careers of several players, and this time, Coco Gauff caught his attention. He said if the young American maintains certain aspects of her game at a high level, she will achieve great success.
Gauff's serve and forehand came under scrutiny this season as she struggled to perform well and secure strong results in major tournaments. In response, Macci commented that it remains to be seen whether she has improved those aspects of her game after switching coaches from Brad Gilbert to Matt Daly.
The veteran coach further added that if the former US Open champion’s serve and forehand are on point, and she maintains her muscle memory at its best, she will usher in a "new age" and write a "new page" in tennis history.
“We will see right away if there has been a major technical change in the serve and forehand. If they are the correct adjustments and the Muscle memory has been 100% extracted Coco with that foot speed and burning rage will enter a new age write a new page @CocoGauff,” Rick Macci wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Serena Williams' ex-coach Rick Macci predicts multiple Grand Slam glory for Coco Gauff
Serena Williams' ex-coach Rick Macci has never been one to hold back his bold opinions on social media, and he recently claimed that Coco Gauff will soon become a multiple-time Grand Slam champion.
He wrote on X:
“Time dictates greatness. Time never lies. Time is on her side. With her sprinter speed bullet backhand and a backbone made of granite and lets plug in that extreme DNA athletic ability Coco Gauff in Time will Time and Time again be a multiple Grand Slam Champion @CocoGauff.”
Macci also pointed out that while every player will inevitably make adjustments to their game plans during the off-season, it will be those who factor in the technical, mental, physical, and strategic aspects who will come out on top. He believes Gauff has the potential to be one of them.
“Every player will make adjustments in the off-season. If those adjustments technically strategically and physically help them MENTALLY then Major League Grand Slam improvement and unwavering belief is on the horizon in 2025 @CocoGauff,” he wrote.
Coco Gauff has arrived in Australia to compete in this year's United Cup, a mixed-gender team tournament. She will be representing Team USA alongside Taylor Fritz, Danielle Collins, Denis Kudla, Robert Galloway, and Desirae Krawczyk, with Michael Russell serving as the team captain.
