Serena Williams' childhood coach Rick Macci recently opined on Coco Gauff's future in the tennis world. Ever since her arrival, the 20-year-old has been surprising tennis fans by conquering milestone after milestone.
Gauff burst onto the scene at the age of 15 when she stunned her idol Venus Williams in straight sets at Wimbledon 2019. Her career has been on an upward trajectory since and the American starlet has a Major, a WTA 1000, and a WTA Finals trophy to her name. She also reached a career-high World No. 2 earlier this year.
Serena Williams' ex-coach Rick Macci, who often chronicles the childhood of the Williams sisters on his social media, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on Gauff's caliber. The 70-year-old was in awe of the talent possessed by Gauff and said,
"The sky is the limit. Her upside has no ceiling. The genetics are off the charts Was born a champion and has unmatched RAW TALENT. When you go into combat the technical weapons you are taught and are baked in double crispy separate great from good under pressure. @CocoGauff."
Macci had also offered advice to the 2023 US Open champion during the offseason this year.
Gauff is set to kick off her 2025 season at the United Cup. She decided to forgo her title defense at the ASB Classic.

During a pre-tournament press conference, Coco Gauff was asked why she decided to play in the 2025 United Cup instead of the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she was a two-time defending champion. The American credited the impact of the Paris Olympics, which she said drove her to compete in a team competition again.
Gauff said:
"Yeah, I love Auckland. I won twice there. It was a great tournament. For me I wanted to play a higher level of competition and also a team competition. I had a lot of fun with the Olympics. Basically a similar crew here today."
"Yeah, just had a lot of fun. The season's already so much by ourselves that it's nice to mix it up. I'm looking forward to hopefully having a good couple weeks here in Perth and hopefully in Sydney, as well," she added.
Coco Gauff will be joined by Taylor Fritz, Denis Kudla, Robert Galloway, Danielle Collins, and Desirae Krawczyk in Team USA, who were the inaugural United Cup champions. They are placed in Group A alongside Canada and Croatia.
