Serena and Venus Williams' childhood coach, Rick Macci, recently shared his thoughts on American tennis star Sebastian Korda. Macci expressed his excitement about Korda's potential and made a bold prediction regarding the player's chances of winning a Grand Slam in the 2025 season.
Korda couldn’t secure a Major in 2024 but won his second ATP singles title and his first ATP 500 title at the Citi Open. He defeated Flavio Cobolli in a thrilling match, coming back with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-0. Additionally, he reached the final of the ATP 250 Libema Open in Hertogenbosch, where he was defeated by Alex de Minaur.
On Friday, December 27, USPTA Hall of Fame coach Rick Macci took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise the current World No. 22 for his talent on the court. The veteran coach expressed his belief that, if Korda can avoid injuries, he has a strong chance of winning a Grand Slam title next season.
“He has the talent. He has the game. If he can stay injury free and play the entire year a GRAND SLAM Title for Sebby Korda is very Near. @atptour”
Sebastian Korda is set to compete at the Brisbane International, starting on December 31. He will then take part at the Adelaide International before heading to Melbourne for the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
Sebastian Korda: "My ultimate goal in tennis is to win two Grand Slams, one more than my dad"
After making it to the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000 in 2023, Sebastian Korda shared his ultimate ambition in tennis: to win more Grand Slam titles than his father, Petr Korda.
Petr made his mark as the runner-up in the 1992 French Open. He later secured his first Grand Slam title at the 1998 Australian Open, defeating Marcelo Rios in straight sets with an impressive 6–2, 6–2, 6–2 victory. This triumph elevated him to a career-high singles ranking of World No. 2.
During an interaction with the media, Sebastian Korda shared:
“Obviously, I would love to be better than my dad. My ultimate goal in tennis is to win two Grand Slams, one more than my dad.”
He added:
“Tennis is something that I just love doing. It doesn’t matter if it’s playing, watching, I watch tennis all day long, basically. I just really enjoy being here, really enjoy playing tennis."
