Novak Djokovic is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time. It's arguable because there are some who don't consider him as such, though statistically, he's by far the most successful tennis player of all time. Those stats are not fully cemented yet because Djokovic is still an active player. He's also pretty good despite having taken a step back last year.
Last year was the first time he failed to crack 40 wins in a year since 2017 when he dealt with injury problems. As an active player, Djokovic still has goals, and those goals are to further his legacy. The best way to do that is to win more trophies, with the Grand Slams being the ones he'll focus on the most.
Noted coach Rick Macci, who used to coach the Williams sisters, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova and others, believes that Djokovic still has something to say on the top level of tennis. While he didn't win a single Grand Slam last year, Macci believes that the Serbian can get there again. Two things make him a beast according to Macci, as he posted on X:
"He has two X factors at every Grand Slam. He has been there done that better than guy who held the stick. He has two major league things going for him. His name. NOVAK DJOKOVIC."
Djokovic certainly has the edge in terms of experience in many cases because out of his major competitors, very few have actually won Grand Slams.
Djokovic's to start 2025 season in Brisbane
The quest for further glory for Djokovic will begin in Brisbane. That will be the first event he will play in the next year and it will likely be the only prep event he will play ahead of the Australian Open.
The Australian Open, of course, is statistically the best major for Djokovic as he has won it ten times, a feat surpassed only by Nadal at Roland Garros. Starting off the year in Brisbane the right way would be a major confidence booster for Djokovic, who does need it.
After lacklustre performances in 2024, the Serbian could use a title run in Brisbane, and he is the major favorite according to the bookies. The first obstacle is native player Rinky Hijikata, who is a pretty solid player who can do some damage.
The Australian plays aggressively and doesn't shy from coming forward, so he could give some problems to Djokovic. How that match pans out could tell us a lot about how 2025 could go for the Serbian.
