Coco Gauff is one of the best players in the world, but the American has aspirations to be the best player in the world and not just one of the best. To become that, Gauff has to work really hard. It's never been a problem for her so far as she's improved as a player every year.

That in itself signals her dedication to training and that will serve her really well in the coming years. Even so, the American is already the best in something tennis-related. That's according to noted coach Rick Macci who has worked with the likes of Serena and Venus Williams as well as Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick.

Macci has seen lots of world-class tennis up close so he knows what he's talking about. According to him, nobody is better at counter-punching in and out of the corner. He posted on X:

"Coco counter punches better than any player in and out of the Corner. Her make up speed in and out of the Corner is another level. Wide first serve on duece court is skidding 2 feet up from the Corner. BANG! Number one around the Corner."

Macci and Gauff nearly worked together in the past off-season because the American has had some on-and-off issues with her serve. Macci was one of the names floated as a potential solution to Gauff's serving woes, but it didn't materialise.

Coco Gauff's 2025 season

While the calendar is yet to show 2025, the 2025 tennis season is well underway and Gauff has been active in the United Cup. The American has played two matches so far at the competition. The first one was a singles match against Leylah Fernandez, which she was able to win without too many problems 6-3, 6-2.

It was a really good showing from Gauff, who has historically been somewhat shaky in Australia, losing matches that she shouldn't have lost. The other match she played at the United Cup was a mixed doubles match together with Taylor Fritz as they bested Leylah Fernandez and Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6(2), 7-5.

That match was crucial because it ultimately settled the score in the tie, as Fritz lost to Auger-Aliassime making the doubles match a winner-takes-all. Gauff made a strange scheduling decision because she was the defending champion in Auckland, but despite that, she didn't opt to play at that event, choosing the United Cup instead.

She's actually the back-to-back champion in Auckland, having won both in 2024 and in 2023.
