Serena Williams' ex-coach offers Coco Gauff valuable advice for 2025

Serena Williams’ ex-coach Rick Macci bestowed an important piece of advice upon Coco Gauff that might help the American tennis star ‘shine bright’ during the 2025 season. After a breakthrough 2023, where she won the US Open, Gauff failed to win a single Major this year.

Macci is one of the most decorated coaches of all time having coached an astounding five World No. 1 players, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati, and Maria Sharapova. He is the youngest member to be inducted into the United States Professional Tennis Association and is a seven-time USPTA national coach of the year.

On X (formerly Twitter), the 70-year-old often chronicles the escapades of the Williams sisters from their childhood and also praises Richard Williams for the manner in which he helped Serena and Venus reach new heights. This time around, he decided to give Coco Gauff important advice that could help her in the big events moving forward.

"MINOR adjustments in the off season can shine bright in MAJOR events. @CocoGauff," Macci tweeted.

Though Gauff had a successful 2024 season reaching a career-high World No. 2 and winning the ASB Classic, the China Open, and the WTA Finals, she failed to capture a Grand Slam title. She made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open and the French Open, and the fourth rounds of Wimbledon and the US Open.

She ended her season with a 54-17 win/loss record.

Coco Gauff, who usually loves to respond to her critics, took to X (formerly Twitter) after winning the WTA Finals to thank her fans for being by her side through all the ups and downs.

"Muah. Also, I know tend to focus on “doubters/haters” but this one is really for all of my supporters! Ya’ll held it down for me win or lose! I thank you for that. I see you and I appreciate you. And I know some of you are a little bit petty like me so it does feel nice to silence them for a bit," Gauff tweeted.

She had earlier quipped how she had defeated the 'bad season' allegations after clinching the year-end crown, which drew some negative responses from fans.

Gauff has kicked off preparations for the 2025 season and also joked about how close she was to quitting in the middle of a workout.
